Some people have a lot of success with renting/buying email lists. Try to find a place that you can buy a small list from and test it out, it really depends on the provider.

If it's a good seller, then it should pass the sniff test with an Email Hygiene Service.

I would Hygiene 5% of the list from mixed domains and if they all come back valid, they are probably a good provider. With a good list provider their will be very few dead emails.

If you are going to use a bulk mailing service, most of them will require proof they are double opt in to upload the entire list.

I know I'll be stating the obvious, but won't all those lists be junky? They have been bought and recycled twenty times over.

Udimi is a good place to "buy" email lists. They have affordable prices and helpful reviews. The reviews give you an idea of the quality of the list you are buying.

I have been monetizing purchased data(email) for over 16 years.

Anytime you buy data, you want to buy a random sample and test it. From which you can get an idea of how long it is likely to take to break-even. Based on the results, you can buy more or try and negotiate a better price, if it's appears that it will take longer to break-even then you would like. That way you make sure you are buying it at the right price that will work for you.

If your dealing with a large company it's not likely they will negotiate with you, but if you are dealing with a small broker and they have the data in-house, it is very likely you can make a much better deal, than what ever they initially are asking. So always try and negotiate a better price.

Selling data is all about repeat business and building a good reputation. Any reputable broker isn't going to try and pass off aged data as fresh data. If it is aged, then they are going to tell you it's aged. If your not looking for aged data, they they won't even bring it up.

There is actually nothing wrong with aged data if your an experienced mailer and have the tools to clean it yourself. You can buy aged data for real cheap.

When you buy data it's not about the list you initially acquire, however, you obviously want to break-even on it in an acceptable time frame. The key tis to always be collecting your opens / clickers and removing the non responsive users. That way you are build a smaller, but very responsive list, that you will eventually be able to send less and make more with each mailing. Plus you are reducing your sending cost. Basically you are converting it fro quantity to quality.

What exactly are you looking for?

    Hi:

You need to be very careful buying a email list. Most of those are junk. Spammers used to use those a long while back. Some still use them now.

    Proceed with caution.

Yah, buying mails is a bit risky because you don´t know if everybody from the list is interested in your conditions, if mails are old or not actualized..

Buying email list is not a good idea at all. It can effect you email marketing strategy and make you fall into big trouble by marking your emails as spam. Therefore, it is always a healthy idea to collect email addresses through number of offline and online events. Also, there are number of internet popup and plug-in tools to help you with the same.

    Yes and no

If you want to do an email blast and the list is niche targeted then sure, go ahead if the prices are cheaper than scraping by yourself.

But remember to not sell something right away in the first email blast.

    Here's what I would do.

    1. Have a landing page to capture leads (ebook, report, checklist or whatever)
    2. Your email message needs to read like a blog post update or something very soft
    3. Send all the traffic to the landing page

    Now here's the good part.

    1. After they've confirmed their email addresses with you - they already have built some kind of rapport with you through the free ebook you gave for free (assuming they've read it).
    2. Send a few more emails about useful tips and tricks.
    3. Casually slip in 2 links, but be upfront with them. Tell them you will get a percentage of the sale and it's how they can support you pay your bills. If they don't want to, they can click on a direct link.

Protip: people don't like to be forced. Don't be afraid of them not clicking on your affiliate link because after getting your free stuff, they will feel obliged to reciprocate by supporting you.

No one will ever sell a good email address list. You will never find a high-quality email list to purchase. You can be sure that the email addresses on any list that is up for sale have already been used and abused by persons who purchased that list before.

The other thing is this: Lists that are for rent or sale were most times built through unethical means. But let’s say the persons on that list voluntarily opted in to receive information from the person seeking to sell the list - that means they don’t know you and will never trust you enough to purchase anything from you and will mark all your emails as spam.

There are no shorts cut to success in anything – you have to do the work first. I am sure there are people here at Digitalpoint who can teach you the pros and cons in building and email list – seek them out and invest in yourself. The road you are attempting to go down will take you nowhere.

    That's not entirely true.

I've been monetizing purchased data for over 16 years.

You can buy fresh targeted data, where the users have given permission to receive messages from 3rd parties. It's not as responsive as a highly targeted opt-in list that you build yourself. But it really doesn't matter, because it's much cheaper and scalable than building your own list.

However, it's not for everyone and you can't buy data blindly. You need to test small samples, before spending any significant money.

Even if (as he said) he has been monetizing purchased data for over 16 years, nothing can beat building your own email list with people who know you, trust you and like you.

I feel totally the opposite. Building lists / relationships is a drag. It's so much easier doing it the way I do it.

There is one thing that no one can deny and that is, all the top earners in the IM arena (Frank Kern, Martin Avis, Pat Flynn, Eben Pagan, Christopher Payne, Jeff Walker, Amy Porterfield, Sarah Staar and the others) - attained success as a result of having an email list that they themselves built from scratch.

I will continue to warn people that it's a foolish thing to purchase email lists regardless of what others say to the contrary. Check out all the top internet markers and you will notice that none of them reached where they are presently by purchasing email lists. They all built their lists from ground zero. Please refer to my other posts above on this matter and awake from your slumber.
