I'm looking for a developer, just not sure what to ask for

I am in the process of starting up a site, and it would need to be a custom script, as nothing really like it exists. I love the look and feel of 37signals stuff, which I know is all done on Ruby/Rails. I have also been using a site that I like as well, Text Link Ads. The functionality is there, with the expansion of items without page reloads, etc. The idea is along the line of Text Link Ads, but a different direction, different concept.

In the end, will it be cheaper/better for me to have this developed in Ruby/Rail or PHP? Six months down the road, when I need something updated/fixed with the scrip, which one will be easier to fix/update?

If it ends up being Ruby, where do I need to go to find a developer? I have looked at sites like getalancer and others, and there seem to be options for PHP there, but not Ruby.

    Thanks for your help!

Yes, 37signals' applications are done in Ruby on Rails but what people like about them is their simplicity, and interactivity (AJAX) neither of which are tied to any specific server-side language.

That is pretty much what I understood. I think I was trying to ask is one way better than another to do this? If you were going to develope a site like this, would you have it done in php or ruby on rails?

Well, in that case... If finding somebody to change/update your pages down the road is very important, you will definitely have a lot more luck finding a PHP programmer as opposed to a Ruby programmer.
