I saw through Google that I could create my own domain name which I did for $11 a year I was unaware that through Google apps I have to pay Per month per user for an email address. I'm going to cancel Google apps. Is there any less expensive way to get email addresses when you register a domain Thanks Rick
You will have to pay a monthly or annual fee to a hosting company to host the domain and emails. This can range from $1-10/month or even higher depending on the company. You didn't say where you bought the domain, some registrars have inexpensive email hosting as well.
Yize is right. Alot of domain registrars will offer email hosting, either very cheap, or even free. Another option is to simply sign up for any hosting provider. If the host uses cpanel, it is very easy for you to create many email accounts, and access them online via webmail, or access them from any computer. IF you have an existing hosting account with any provider, you can use the "add-on" domain feature, and once you do this, you can create email accounts for that email address. Personally, I use webmail when I am at work, and at home and on phone I use outlook (or whatever its called) to connect directly. While google apps is expensive, if this is important emails (especially for a business), then it is worth looking at paying the price, and there are many business that have their sites hosted in one place, and make use of google apps. I know you need an affordable solution, but sometimes it is worth paying a little extra for piece of mind. Please if you have any more questions, or if you are struggling to find how to create email account, then please feel free to ask. regards, Matt.
It looks like you will have to sign up with a hosting plan with another hosting company. I have never purchased a domain via google before. However, there are google support options. What you will have to do, is signup with a host, and once this is done, your host AND google, should help you to point your domain to your hosting provider.
gandi.net I usually don't like to promote stuff but I think I pay $11 though these guys and have had no problems.
$10-$11 per month still might be a little pricey, giving that a proper host, even on a shared environment, should be able to give you unlimited email addresses for your domain with the package. Generally, there are many good hosts in the range of $3-$10 per month. As for the process of pointing the domain name nameservers, it is a little specific with domains bought from Google, but its really not such a hard task. Your host can easily supply you with all the needed info and once pointed, there is a short propagation, after which your domain needs a little time to propagate and voila - you can now create unlimited email addresses and use them for your business.
If you're into GoDaddy, they have promo codes out right now for $0.99/year domain registrations and I think 50% new hosting plans. I believe one free e-mail address is included, I have no idea how much additional ones would run. (Not much)
Btw, sorry, but being new here need a little guidance - how does DigitalPoint Forums feel about self-promoting in threads that you know you can give a good advice to a customer (moderators can safely delete this post if the answer is "Not Allowed")
he did say it was "per year" and not per month. And he can always use this in conjunction with outlook.com services, giving him a nicer, and mobile friendly way to access his mail. regarding self promoting.... i dunno what the mods think, but I personally hate it, which is why I am not promoting my hosting services in this thread. However, I do love genuine recommendations from people who USE a service (not biased from people that OWN a service). this is why it is great that averyz dropped a genuine recommendation for gandi.net
I disagree... if a business owner is willing to sit here and explain to me how their product works, how I can get the most out of it etc. and I end up saving money in the long run, I'd rather listen to the business owner. The hard part is separating the bullsh.. people try to feed you and finding true advantages to products .
