I'm confused about keyword density & associated issues

    Hi there, please can someone help me understand something, thankyou so much!!

    I have a website. It is soon to be optimized by my webmaster. i have been genning up on SEO practice to work out a plan for the site pages and to be able to communicate with my webmaster in his own language !

    I understand about putting keywords/phrases in the title tag, meta tags, description tags,Image tags etc,

    Then I understand about sprinkling these keywords about the page - am aiming to use each keyword or keyphrase twice every 100 words of text ,(I am including their use in HEADINGS throughout the page when I say once overy 100 words of text) so I would have a 2% density , as don't want to risk Google penalizing me for a higher % . But I'm a bit uncertain about these issues:

    1. If I want an overall keyword/phrase density for each of my 2-3 chosen words/phrases of 2% DO I COUNT THE NUMBER OF TIMES THOSE KEYWORDS/PHRASES APPEAR IN THE VARIOUS TAGS.....OR NOT?
    For if I was to have keyword/phrase repeated every 100 words or so on my page TEXT then also factor in the number of times they appear in the various TAGS, "behind the scenes"...this would make my density % much higher than 2% .

    So how exactly does it work ? I can't seem to find an answer to this through my efforts at searching articles about it. I need to be certain about how to calculate my word usage, what the engines include or don't include when calculating your density figures and deciding if you are over-optimized or not,

    2. I have a psychic readings and astrology site. Say one page is all about tarot readings and i come to the stage where i choose the keywords or phrases for this particular pages optimization, can I have , for example "tarot reading" and "tarot readings" or are the two deemed pretty much the same? so that if i have "Tarot reading" appear twice every 100 words and then "tarot readings" every 100 words, really i have over optimized that page, it could be deemed as a spamming attempt and I'd be better of opting for, say "Tarot reading" and "psychic reading" instead ?

    But then, the world "reading" is repeated in each keyphrase so wouldn' i have the same issue of having used one word too many times ?!!!

    3. Anchor text - i have learnt that creating a good number of links to other pages within my own site throughout my pages by way of text links is a good idea. And that the text for these links should contain a keyphrase/word . I also read that you can create lots of these links (anchor text) and the appearance of the keywords you use in them WON'T be counted as part of your overall keyword density %

    IS THIS TRUE ?

    4. Say I have optimized one page for the words "Tarot readings" and "Psychic predictions". Another page on my site may be suited to the same keywords....is it okay to optimize more than one web page with the SAME keywords ?

    thank you so much in advance,

    Not to talk about weighted keyword density where titles, headers etc. weigh more :)

    However, I suggest you do the following if you are unsure.
    * Compare yourself (keyword density) to your top competitiors
    * Compare the trust level (has your website been around for a long time, number of quality backlinks etc.)
    * Write naturally

    I think 2% is a bit low for a main keyword phrase.
