I'm confused about Article Marketing. Should I go for Quality or Quantity?

Ideally, you want both. I would first go for quality. I feel like though that you can write a lot of articles and still have them be of quality. If you are writing spam articles that really do no benefit for the reader, then don't expect long term gains off of those articles.

Bum Marketing is a slow slow process.

I have written and had accepted 45 articles about foreclosures and affiliate marketing on Ezinearticles.com thus far.

Have had approximately 98 of them picked up by other web masters but I have not seen a hugh inflow of traffic as yet.

I will start submitting to other article sites soon and hope for the best.

When you read an article on a website do you want to read garbage that is written to trick the search engines or something that author is clearly passionate about by writing a good article? When you go for quality articles you can achieve some great results like the study done here with only ten articles:

It seems that articles benefit me most by backlinks which then give better results in the SERPs. I've never gotten a lot of traffic from an article unless it was on digg or shoutwire. But then again, maybe I'm not doing something right. :D

Greets Jared, I don't accept submissions directly, if you wish you can sign-up to impactdns.com (it's free). Then read our guidelines prior to any submissions, if your article meets our criteria then it would be published. :D

Also as one of the other posters mentioned don't make articles too self-promoting or mention keywords in every sentence, if it looks like spam and smells like spam then it is spam.

Check also this forum for the article dashboard community. Lots of insight as to what directory owners look for in an article.

    Good Luck,
    Sys Admin/impactdns

Quality for sure is most important. Since article marketing has become all the rage, you will find tons of crap articles out there. People just slap together a few paragraphs, call it an article, says a lot but teaches you nothing and then throws it out there so they can get their link exposed in the resources box. If you write a quality article you will definitely do better. Show your reader that you actually know something and that you can provide them with some useful information without repeating what they've already read on the internet 100 times. If you write crap articles, it's very unlikely someone is going to click the link in your resources box. If, however, you provide good content, then the reader is more likely to clickthrough to your website because they will be interested in reading more of your material. There are TONS of CRAP articles out there. Write some good ones and you'll stand out from the rest.

Also, ezine editors are used to having to sort through 90% crap articles to get to then 10% good ones. The first sign that your article is a thrown together piece of crap, NEXT! Make your article decent, and you'll stand out. ONE really excellent article is better than ten crap articles anyday of the week. Your good article will get picked up and used various other places. Your ten crap articles with just sit their and fade away into the article junkyard.

I have found a huge key to article marketing being your topic. If you have a good topic that people will search for in Google then you should get some readers. Your content should at least be decently written and appear as though some thought has went into it.

Yes, as mentioned, go for both but good, original (100%) quality is all important over everything else.

I didn't think anyone really read them, isn't the purpose to get a backlink and move up the serps?

Quality Over Time > Quantity Now

Work on pumping out high-quality articles at a comfortable pace rather than squeezing out as many articles as possible. It builds better brand equity in your name and the sites the articles promote by associating them with great content rather than just lots of content, and it contributes less to the spam culture that is growing day-to-day.

Write your best as often as you can. If you're writing a lot of articles, slow down and make them better.

Well, actually...it depends more on one's business/website aims! If you're looking to establish yourself as an authority site within your targetted niche...then it will have to be a slower, quality process, that is to say procuding good articles will only benefit you!

Quantity on the short-term may get you traffic, but is that any good if none of your visitors come back to your site? It's your choice, and as I said earlier, comes down to the aims of your website or business.

    Hope that helps :D

Regarding quantity versus quality, I thought of the old joke about the guys working in the desert and running out of food. They come back to camp and the cook tells them there is bad news and there is good news. The bad news is that there is nothing to eat but camel dung. The good news is that there is lots of it.

Poor quality articles have the dangerous side effect of turning off readers. If the article is badly written, I don't want to go look at the site.

    Thanks everyone.

Is it alright to submit it to the top article directories and also the many other directories that are out ther?

It's just that I have been told, by cant remember who, that I should only submit to the top 5
