I'm coming! Keyword targeting.

Finally I decided to target the keyword "web directory" for my...web directory :D

I've seen that most of the high quality directories are ranking high for this keyword.

2 weeks ago I was not ranking in the top 100.
    1 week ago I achived position 47
Today I'm already ranking between position 21-23.

Expect me on the first page sooner or later.

By the way, thanks to your tips (DP members that write into the Directory forum) I switched the links from yearly payment to permament (until I get a PR 6) and also ordered a 400$ custom template that will be online soon :)

keywords like "web directory" and "business directory" etc are getting pretty hard to rank, looks like you have done a good job! keep optimizing and link building, am sure you will make the first page in no time!

Yes, I'm now working on it harder than ever. After 3 months I thought about giving it up but than I got PR5 and sold my first links and now I'm investing a lot of time and money only in this website.

If I succeed in ranking on the first page for "web directory", I will also try it for business directory :)

Yeah, I finally targeted that phrase eventhough it is hard to rank for because of the competition, but I will get there, not afraid!

make sure you diversify the anchor of you backlinks, you can get yourself a penalty if you push too much.

Yes I know that (this actually happened to JhonChow.com who got 10-20 links every day with the anchor text "make money online" ). In fact I'm using 10 different and relevant anchor text combinations (or even more...)

yes, when it comes to the best linking strategies you should forget:
    - contests
    - ego
    - greed
and everything should be fine :)

searches for "web directory" are not that much. Based on Wordtracker something like 375/day.

I'm trying to rank on the first page for web directory because I love the competition :D

I got knocked(or as i call it, bitchslapped by gaygle) from #1 to #75, where I am back up to now?
    http://www.google.com/search?q=bidd...n&rls=GGGL,GGGL:2006-27,GGGL:en&start=10&sa=N

How many people do you think could bounce back from that kind of slap by gaygle is 2 weeks time, after getting a manual review?
I've analyze, and managed and I'll continue to fight it.

I never targeted dump for that keyword. I guess it was just powerful enough to rank because it might be a strong directory.

Also, do note google has pulled the disappearing act with dump, but I've absolutely no worries at all in it coming back; and hopefully stronger.

good for you, I was giving advice eventhough I know he already knew that but it was for everybody. your comment was irrelevent, forums are to help each other not to brag about expertise or anything...

I don't know where you are going with this, but you should keep your personal dislikes out of suggestive input when trying to 'help' others.

You, considering yourself a SEO, just got handed two explanations, and I provided my own proof; of both hit and recover, and by not listening to anyone else, but doing it on my own, and you call that irrelevant to what I fixed in your post? You're a clown, so get over yourself.

    So... with the same exact relevance as fixed in your previous post/quote, I will say it again;
"Don't go by what some third party wannabe joker says, and do your own thing"
which of course, is exactly what I suggested to begin with.

    Happy Friday!
    (p.s. who's bragging?)

Invalid. Google won't penalize for that reason. Someone can use this to lower others' rankings then.

Google could penalize a site if it got poor backlinks, which is I would say very rare. Basically, one way links should not hurt your site. Unless Google knows your one way link patterns. It is possible for G to know those things if your site is extremely popular, of course this is beyond their algo. and I can not backup with any explanation. It's more like a tendency that Google has been doing. (ex. links from phpbb, linux, w3.org)

I didn't want to disappoint folks, so I didn't say much, but I believe Google is dancing atm, and I don't think it's stable yet. Once things get settle down, you should see more reliable ranking results.
