I'm being impersonated on FaceBook - What can I do?

Discussion in 'Legal Issues' started by GaGuy, May 10, 2010.

I have just been notified that somebody has created a FaceBook account using my real name and a real photo of myself. The person has already added several hundred people as friends, and I'm not sure what info he/she has put in my profile.

What can I do about this? =\

Euugh... this is the first case I ever heard about this. Why don't you try facebook help and reporting that user?

Never though there are such people in internet who take someone identity and use it for his own. Such a shameless act... ;(

    Hope this might could help

someone did this to me as well. use the report link on the web page in facebook.
report it as fraudulent and that they are impersonating you. specifically if they are using images of you as well.

Contact Facebook and ask them to remove the profile.

I've heard of many people being impersonated on facebook. Mostly famous or notable personalities.

How did this person get hold of your photos and info? Maybe it is a person you have dealt with in the past.

I would suggest you three things. One, alert Facebook, to what is going on and check their help documents to see if there's anything else you can do. Second, compile a list of the people your evil twin is contacting and then contact them in real life or through something that doesn't involve Facebook (like email). Ask them to tell you if they find who your evil twin really is. Third, let your friends know what's going. Although it's unlikely they can really help you, they might have some advice that I can't think up. I might be able to help more if I get a deeper look at this guys profile.

    I love a good cyber-hunt :)

I think facebook will not just respond to just one plea. You have to do it as many times as possible until facebook responds. But what proof do you have to allow facebook disable that account?

I think they probably would, especially with images being used. I would have thought they would be obligated to at least investigate.

Challenge yourself (Fake you) to a duel, the looser must leave FB forever, the winner can masquerade as you. Simples.

This is illegal. If contacting Facebook fails you can contact authorities. This constitutes a form of identity theft. You have the law on your side.

Just alert Facebook. This happened to me a couple months ago and all I did was contact Facebook, they asked me some questions and they deleted the fake account.
