I'm At A Loss with Adsense? (Rant)

I have just about given up earning any decent money with adsense

I have two a high traffic site about 6K - 10K visitors a day each
My site ranks in the top ten google search for all my major keywords
I have over 300 content filled pages
I update with new articles every day or so
Most have one adsense ad block (either small banner or 300x250) which are suppose to be the most popular
    I get over 100+ clicks a day
I have removed all the non-paying ads from little visited pages in the hope to beat smart pricing

But alas.... no matter how much I tweak or optimize my earnings are steadily going down NOT up...

I'm at a loss as what more I can do... just about tried every hint, tip, suggestion offered on this and other forums... and this is December when just about everyone out there is shopping...

Any suggestions from the experts here would be most welcome...

and a big ho, ho, ho, to you all... thanks

Without knowing details of your site, I can only assume the keywords you are ranked for aren't very competitive from an AdWords point of view, i.e. low bids.

The second aspect is that Google now allows (thankfully) AdWords advertisers to specify a different bid amount for Adsense ads as opposed to search ads. I suspect there's going to be a steep decline in earnings for a lot of people...

Well not every type of site can make a lot of money. Some sites have no high paying keywords so you really can't make a lot of money off them. If you have high visitor numbers, but aren't making anything off Adsense, there's always regular banners that will help you to capitalize on your visitors.

And again yes, it depends on your type of site. Also please know the TOS. You are not allowed to disclose CTR or Click counts to the public.

On certain nieches I noted a sensible difference betwen bids since Google split them into content ads and search ads, probably this may be your case if nothing else happened, like Google penalties for example.

Maybe your hard work that didn't bring any good results just shows that AdSense might simply not be the right choice for your site and you should try some other ways to monetize on it.

    Just some ideas:
    - CPM Ads
    - Affiliate Programs
    - Selling ad space yourself
    - CPC alternatives to AdSense like Yahoo or Chitika

You say your earnings are dropping. Is that relative to the same number of clicks or are you saying Google is giving you less money per click? That all depends on the whatever the bid price was at that time. It maybe that it is a slow season for your particular market and the terms are not as competitive.

If one of the sites you're talking about is the Elvis site, well...you have pop-ups. That's going to cut back on adsense earnings.

Also, you have to target ads that advertisers are paying for. I only get a few clicks on some of my sites, but those clicks generate $5 a day per site. It depends if there is a market for your topic on Adwords. If no one is paying for them, except the generic Ebay ads and Shopping.com type ads, then you're not going to be generating too much revenue.

If its the Elvis sites you are talking about - your Adsense placements could use a lot of work on those sites.

exactly my thoughts as well... to begin with, lose the block of links that's above the fold, it's prime real estate that is detracting from the ads.

there are too many better choices on those pages than an adsense ad.

Why don't you use your expierence making your site and generating traffic, to set-up another one in a high paying keyword category?

A lot of been imparted here that is likely very true. Case in point from my stance:

Entertainment sites can generate a lot of traffic. BUT, you have to realize that the demographic of these visitors are generally looking for free stuff to begin with: pictures, lyrics, music, etc. - they're wanting FREE and hence not likely to be clicking ads. Secondly, this genre of AdWords does not generally pull in large CPC. I have some female celebrity sites that pull in huge amounts of traffic ... but not huge amounts of CTR and hence payments.

I would put black background with blue text like the rest of your site on the google ads blend them in to match content. With that many visitors you should make money just on the accidental clicks alone :D
