I'm applying for a job. How much should I ask for?

I am applying for a job in Las Vegas. This job requires PHP and MySql knowledge, which I have. They asks me for my salary requirements (this is a must). I don't know how much should I tell them.

I don't have a degree is computer programming. I learned PHP and MySql myself for 2-3 years. I have written some scripts to add features to an existing web site. I can build some simple dynamic web sites. I believe I am somewhere at entry and intermediate level.

I also know JavaScript, CSS, C# .NET, Sql Server, MS Access. All self-taught.

I never worked for any company as a programmer.

How much would you ask if you were me? Please note that "I'm open to any offer" is not an option. The employer must know. Thanks.

Maybe just say "I am willing to work with whatever you offer." Then if it is too low maybe ask for a raise.

Like I said, an open answer is not an option for me. :(

Look up what the going rate is for in that area. Then do below that. There are sites that list salary by zip codes.

    Hello funphp,

This is a very important and tricky question asked by the employers and based on your answer they evaluate you and your skills.

You will need to do some homework here, study about the company and its offerings to other employees as a salary package including perks from your own resources. If you are not able to do that, then try to find what rate/hour is for your skill set in that particular city, now based on your concise make a decision about your offer and let them know. It should be, not too less nor too high as both will work against you.

    Regards,
    Gonzo

I would recommend to see the living cost in LA... and based on it you can demand... at the end of the day you have to pay bills from you pocket..make sure you will have enough salary for that

$56,000+ annual. Perhaps could be scaled back to $48,000+ or slightly less depending on your skill.
