Okay im having a problem here, I started earning on my first successful affiliate programme with an anti-virus company, all is going well but then suddenly they say I cannot use the name of there product (Its an antivirus product) It's registered with the US Trademark Office, but I am from the UK - Does this apply to me? I dont understand why these people have an affiliate program if I am unable to promote there brand and product because they trademarked it.
Regardless if it legally applies to you (being from the UK), they simply will not pay you for advertising you do based on copyright infringement. There are many reasons for this. One off the top of my head is that most of these companies are doing advertising themselves of their own product and you would directly be competing with them, driving the price of advertising of their brand name up, which doesn't make sense for the advertiser.
Are they referring specifically to PPC? If so its a fair enough request - the more affiliates bidding on their brand name, the higher the cost for everyone....
It was simply a site I made giving out coupons that they provided, but turns out I cant use that either.
Two things that generally merchants wont allow 1. Brand name in your URL (stupid to do anyhow as they can just take it off you especially if its related to their product) 2. Brand name bidding in PPC (for obvious reasons, your taking commissions on customers who were already searching for the brand name
Suggest you check the terms and conditions of the affiliate prog - doubtless there'll be something within which will cover what they do/do not allow regarding promotional activity.
