I'm a victim of fraud, advice on reporting it to the police??

I have been recently scammed for $700 by Greg2414.

It's a long story and I don't really want to go in to it now. Basically Gregory Wilding sold me www.uploadwiz.com for $700 when he did not own it.

I've filed a claim on paypal and I want to report it to the police because When I spoke to a paypal representative on the phone he advised me to go to the police.

I have evidence that Greg did scam me from msn chat logs and emails.

Has anyone of you ever reported some thing like this to the police before?
Could you give me some advice on the issue please.

The police won't do anything for that amount of money, neither will the FCC or FBI. If he doesn't live in a big city, you could call the police in his town, they will keep their eyes open but that's about it.

The paypal representative said the poilce have a fraud squad and will try to track down the fraudster. I'm going to report him if I do not get a refund.

ummmm..... red flag, part of the responsibility for this happening must go on to you also. You should've checked things like that out before parting with your money.

Oh really, the PayPal representative knows every town in the whole world? Sounds like she was just trying to get you off the phone.

Some towns are starting to get an internet crime department but you will just stress yourself out even more dealing with them. Think of this like a learning experience, $700 to the "won't be scammed this easily again next time" fund.

I have friends in some pretty high places. PM me as much as you know about him and I'll see what I can do for you.

The police don't care about your $700. They have murders, rapes, and $5000-$500,000 scams to catch.

Sucks that this happened to you. You should be much more careful when you buy sites, though.

Shame on the person who "sold" it to you.

Did he give you all the site info, hits, stats etc? If he did then how does he have access to this info and if he didn't why would you buy it in the first place?
This is bad news for anyone thinking of buying anything through a forum, and even worse for genuine people who are selling.

Assuming your British just go to the police and they will tell you where to go. Yes they wont put the whole force on it but they wont just ignore it, whats the worst that can happen? youw ast an hour or two at the station. If you file it and the guy gets arrested or been ivolved in other scams than if they do get caught you will get some of your money back.

    Hi,

Would be interesting to hear how you resolved this matter. What steps did you take to get it back, any useful resources etc.

Not sure if you bought this online or offline but I made a guide here. Hope this helps!

Whoa James we seem to run into the same scammers... Greg2414 tried to sell me a site that you were trying to sell on the forums through PM, I had a funny feeling about it because in that thread the site was not sold yet so he did not own the site he was trying to sell to me. Luckily I declined and he stopped PMing me. Glad you got your site back.

How can you sell a site you don't own? I mean wouldn't you ask for access to the server and such before buying it? Or check the whois info?
