Ok I had a site that I was using just as a redirect domain for magazine publications (it was easier to remember then my search optimized site).

I turned this site into a search optimized site, with one little problem : I FORGOT TO FIX ROBOTS.TXT!

I fixed robots.txt but a couple of weeks later I'm still in the same boat essentially. Will Google ever forgive me =(

To get Googlebot to visit you, get some incoming links,
Register your website with Google webmaster tools and
submit a Sitemap. Then wait patiently.

    Have a look at: http://gsitecrawler.com/

It's a great free tool to create your robots.txt file and your sitemap for the robots to crawl. Works well.

submit to social bookmarking sites like digg, stumbleupon and others. Also, participate in Yahoo answers, respond to answers related to your site and then put your website URL.
