Whats all that about ............I was born a dog and will die a dog.I've just noticed I've gone from Peanut to Radar and now I'm a Torrent. I just wanna be a dog!!!! And a Bull Terrier at that!
Peanut? Should have joined the forum earlier and donated $25 for new servers... then you could make it whatever you want. http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/donate.html
$25 got you a user title, $100 got you some bonus stuff in keyword tracker and keyword suggestion tool and $250 got you some advertising (and everything else).
why i didn't know about that then? Now I'm stuch with this title and with no link Shawn, do you need to buy anything else soon?
Yeah, that's like a bad habbit, I always miss all the cool things.. will you consider donations then.. You know there were too many problems with the database lately, the forum is down too frequently.. may be you need new servers? $25 for a title is like nothing!
Shawn can you share with us what you'll be needing and if there are other new service offerings you are preparing?
The forum doesn't really go DOWN (hehe), just needs mysqld (only the process, not the server) to be restarted because of a memory fragmentation issue with MySQL that appears to only be limited to BSD based kernels (see this bug report). Wasn't really a noticeable issue until the db server was averaging more than 300 queries per second 24/7. Now at ~1,800 queries per second 24/7, yes... it's really getting on my nerves (daily mysqld restart). Also probably should be getting another web server for a little cluster (currently my "high traffic" web server is pushing out about 1,000 http hits per second 24/7... 90% dynamic/php). It's fine for now, but it's running out of leeway for growth (and everything is growing every month). Michael_Goldman is right... This is what I'm looking at right now... http://www.digitalpoint.com/~shawn/2006/02/dell-poweredge-1855-blade-server.html A blade server setup that ultimately would be 10 computers (blades) totaling 40 Xeon processors, 120GB RAM, 2.9TB 15k rpm hard drive storage, etc. That most certainly is WAY overkill for now (although I never thought I would ever outgrow the current setup either). A setup like that would let me setup database and web clusters (for example could use 4 blades/computers as a "single" database server and 6 as a "single" web server. Need more power, just add blades or whatever to the cluster. I also talked to the MySQL developers to find out what is their absolute ideal platform to run MySQL on (so I don't run into weird memory frag issues), and they seem like like SuSE Linux Enterprise. So if I end up buying a blade system, that's what I'm going to run.
ok... I just had to quote it. I'll printscreen this and put it on my wall above the computer and also send out to all my friends... and .. and I'll make a t-shirt like shoemoney did and will give it out for free!! anyways hope I'll still be there at the next donation event to get a title and a featured DP link
