What is the circumstance? I once missed a toll booth (I went in Fastrack lane without a transponder) and got a note saying I owed $28 for not paying $2.25. I sent a note explaining I wasn't familiar with the toll road and had paid when I got on and didn't realize I had to pay more, blah blah blah, and attached a check for $2.25. They cashed it and I never heard back. This was in southern California, not sure if Illinois toll way people would be so cool and or understanding.

Something like 12-14 unpaid tolls. Dating back to 05 or 06 I think. No, the are not very forgiving. She wanted to offer me like $291 I said, $0.

Are you a toll road user? If so do you toss coins in or do they use transponders?? Did someone else use a car registered to you? I'd ask for photographs or other evidence that you actually owe them something, if she hassles you just ask for the supervisor.

No. Not regularly. I don't believe in tolls though. What I am saying is, why would I pay the State of Illinois money to drive on crappy roads? I'm old enough to remember when the system was set up, it would be 13 years. That's it. Its been a bit longer than that. So I stopped paying them.

It sounds like you used some toll roads without paying, so you owe them the tolls plus penalties.

In most cases toll roads are a better, alternate route. I can save 6 miles of driving and avoid a few bad traffic spots and save a half an hour or more on some evenings by using a toll road. In principle, I'd like to not be taxed for any road, I'd rather pay as I go.

Odd, they were only supposed to collect tolls for 13 years. I stopped paying after that.

In Ohio and Indiana, yes. In Illinois, no. They suck.

Ahhh, I hope you don't find out that the Boston Tea Party was triggered by a six pence per pound and rebel against the government that replaced British rule.

As long as Illinois keeps getting federal dollars for their roads, they should not be charging tolls.
