hi Im just wondering if it is illegal to sell your own homemade keylogging software, as long as it is not intended for illegal use, is not a virus, and cannot spread or infect anything. just a regular exe program file. anyone?
ok thanks, i would like to sell my software, cheap, $2 or so. but i need 23 posts to post in the buy sell trade forum so if anyone is interested just pm me. thanks for reply Judd
Yeah, im inclined to agree, as long as there is no threat to the computer, (backdoor sending keystrokes to you, say) then you should be fine.
yeah, I agree with Ryandarin, as long as you do not harm the computer (the client or the host, depending on if the software is a one part or two part program) and does not send information to anyone, besides the owner (the person who purchased it from you) and you market it as a "Parental Control" tool, you will be fine.
its not illegal to make the software its only illegal to use it without informing the person using the comp.
Keylogging software is often used by companies to track what workers are doing on computers at work. I am sure that this is disclosed in the computer/internet agreement that workers must sign. This practice has been taken to court and upheld. If their use is legal (under certain circumstances), then it must be legal for somebody to make it.
I'm also pretty sure that you can sell the keylogger with a built in backdoor and everything, as long as you market it for education purchases only. "Training aides" for teaching hacker defense is a gray area.
hehe, backdoors and viruses are not my thing, but i guess you can pretty much sell anything as long as its for "educational purpose only" :-p and yes youre right druidelder, ive seen some companies/websites that sell keyloggers...
