I think I was wrong. My CTR actually jumped a bit. I will leave the current system running for at least 48 hours to see if there is a visible difference. Thanks again everyone.

I think you can optimize your ads in order to improve your earnings.

First of all, forums have low CTR which means low earnings, but you can optimize your ads to get maximum possible CTR.

The ads in your forum; I suggest you change the background to white color. Also try different ad units.

Many companies do pay per thousand views. With those pageviews you could possibly get into tribalfusion which is one of the biggest.

    Hey,

I wouldn't give up on google just yet!

There are many fantastic mods for PHPBB that let you insert adverts into your forum discreetly and effectively. If you check (http://yorksocial.evolutiondirectory.com) You can see I have a half banner add between every 10th and 11th post. This gives me a very nice conversion rate :)

Large banner adds at the top tend not to work and may even put people off using your site.

Think of it as taking a smaller slice of a bigger pie :)

You could also insert a Link Unit Block add to the top right of every first post on a page. Congratulations on having a site that is doing so well though, it is always good to see someone suceed :)

    Hi,

Just a few thoughts that might help.

Firstly, have you read the adsense help? I didn't even know this existed until recently and now I am redesigning some of my sites to accomodate. It tells you which ads perform best, which position on the site and which colour schemes to go for.

In particular there is a section for optimizing forums.

If you read these carefully I think there are several changes you could make that should help.

From a personal point of view, your ad at the top is too high up the page. Imagine your reading the forum, your ads want to be next to the forum posts. If you are using a smaller screen 1024x768, a small widescreen 1280x800 or less that probably 50% of your visitors use, then you need to scroll down to read the post and the top banner will be off the screen. Compare that to these forums and you can see the adsense at the top of the screen and some of the second post.

I also don't think your adsense link unit integrates that well. Compare it to this forum and which one is better?

    Hope that's of some help.
