    Mates,
IFSC code is mostly mentioned on your cheque book. its a simple code to identify your bank account branch. Its 11 characters alpha-numeric code.
    1. first 4 charaters are your bank name's first four alphabets. Like ICICI Bank's ICIC, UTI Bank's UTIB etc.
    2. Last 2-3 characters display branch code of your bank.
    3. In between step 1 & 2 are Zeros. If your branch code is of 3 digits than there will be 4 zeros. E.g. ICICI bank with branch code 034 with have IFSC code ICIC0000034. Similarly UTI/Axis Bank will have IFSC as UTIB0000034.
I hope it may be of help.

You can cross-check IFSC codes here.
Still trying to find a reliable all-in-one source.

Answer:The Indian Financial System Code (IFSC) is an alpha-numeric code designed to uniquely identify bank branches in India. This is an 11 -digit code with the first four characters representing the bank code, the next character is a control character, and the last 6 characters identify the branch. The Reserve Bank of India publishes the IFSC and MICR codes.
