IFSC Code India Banks The other day when PayPal insisted on the "IFSC code" for bank transfers in India, I began to do some research on it online. ?Do any body know this?Do they want to track some thing? IFSC codes are required for EFT /RTGS and hence PayPal is asking for IFSC code so they can make transfer to your account with EFT/RTGS. IFSC Code Format Its a simple 11 characters alpha-numeric code to identify your bank account branch. 1. First 4 characters are your bank name's first four alphabets. Like ICICI Bank's ICIC, UTI Bank's UTIB etc. 2. Last 2-3 characters display branch code of your bank. 3. In between step 1 & 2 are Zeros. If your branch code is of 3 digits than there will be 4 zeros. Eg for HDFC IFSC Code is HDFC000XXX where xxx is Bank Branch No UTI/Axis Bank IFSC Code is UTIB0000XXX where XXX is Branch No ICICI IFSC Code is ICIC0000XXX where XXX is your Bank Branch Code. You can easily find this code on your bank cheque book. You can find the IFSC Code by just looking on your cheque Leaves. If in doubt, The best way to get IFSC code is, call your bank and ask the code and compare with no published in the list. The Reserve Bank of India publishes the IFSC and MICR codes. http://rbidocs.rbi.org.in/rdocs/RTGS/PDFs/List of RTGS Participants.pdf (Reserve bank of India Direct Link) Also, other websites to lookup are http://www.idrbt.ac.in/index_fromsm.html?ifsc_directory.html?infinet http://anjanesh.co.in/ifsc/ Request mods to make this sticky if you find it useful...
