Iframes...What and why ?

I see that several sites are using iframes to display thier burstmedia advertisements. I was wondering if there is some advantage to doing this and how I could develop on for my own burst ads..

 

I had to use an iframe to show my ads from another network because they were taking ages to load and made my site slow as a snail.

So I added an iframe and have it load after my site is loaded, I guess they are doing the same

 

Do you know where I could read on how to create one. I have had issues with slow ads in the past and removed the ads till they regained thier speed so this would be nice to have in effect..
