check over on dnforum as to what they are saying about .co, essentially they're crap, worthless and have no benefit over any other non .com/org/net extension. as far as domains go it's quite simple: 1: com 2: net/org 3: top level ccTld for geo specific sites (.co.uk for uk, .nl, .de etc) 4: anything else only has any value if it's premium generic keyword eg "money", or has traffic.
So going back to my original question, if i target US market the org/net is the best choice, but if for instance the tergeted market is UK then a co.uk would be the best choice?
If targeting a global market get a .com/.net/.org etc If targeting a specific market get a ccTLD like .co.uk
yes. ".co is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) assigned to the Republic of Colombia."
There is always hype surrounding new extensions to increase domain registrar/registry profits. But think about it logically, how can you compare a ccTLD to .com ?
Go with a .net. .org generally means non profit organization so be more careful about that. (yet .org sometimes have a little bit of more validity over other options). If not of those 3 are available look for a new .com. Their are many .net sites I have seen do good (problogger.net; zybez.net) ect., yet a majority of the sites are .com. The only way I would consider moving on too like a .info, .biz or something like that is if the exact match is available for a very highly searched keyword, i.e. makemoneyonline.info would be worth it because of the possibilities.
Co is actually good if you can get a short domain name. I see O.co and angel.co becoming really popular. Org is good for non-commerce sites because it gives some validity and people won't think you are a scam site, but a well-meaning blogger/informational site. Net is good for e-commerce and I've seen it used more by companies who don't get the Com. You can then buy out the Com once you generate enough profit, and can also claim copyright over the Com, if you establish your branding well enough.
.co is never good and a one letter .co is quite expensive TM, not copyright that would be reverse domain hijacking
Is this based on your opinion or experience? Do you think that visitors will avoid .co and/or .co is bad for SEO? Because I can tell you I've had no problem ranking EMD .co's high (top 3) and getting visitors to them.
you can rank with .co, you can rank with .ws or even .su but for an online store you need a brand, not just a domain name u.s. visitors automatically assume your domain name is .com, german visitors assume your domain is .de, etc. if you ignore it, you lose
I agree with you when it comes to an ecommerce site or even a branded Amazon affiliate site. But an EMD with .co works just fine for Amazon affiliate sites that are just trying to rank for a specific keyword.
