Lets say I want to target a niche market. I know I can rank and make money. Do I need my domain name to have keywords in it? Lets say I want to target weight loss. I make my domain something like superfastweightloss.com and I build my website.

Would it matter if the website had keywords in it? Could I do something like yourinfosource.com instead and be a more broad website talking about multiple topics and still rank for weight loss?

I am trying to see if I should target many things with like a review website or just be an authority website in a tiny niche? Back in the day 4 page niche websites worked well but I hear that is not the case any longer since uh panda update years ago?

It doesn't work for low quality domain names. I can safely assume superfastweightloss.com will be considered low quality. Meta keywords, exact matches in domain names worked well until about 6 years ago. Choose a domain name that will be memorable, trustworthy and has a potential for branding.

So something more like Weightlossguru would be better or TheInformationdude if I was going broad?

I agree regarding memorable name. Maybe something like using part of key phrase in domain? Like wlossguru or poundsguru?

I agree with qwikad.com. Direct keyword matching domain names can be considered spammy. Use a domain name that will be memorable for your niche or something you can brand.

Of all the things that will help you rank, domain name is pretty low on the list. Just look at the domains for some of the biggest websites, they are brands not keywords :) .The top two things to get you to rank are

    1. Content - having great content that is relevant to your niche on the site and a lot of it. Content can and should include text, images and video. Just don't keyword stuff, write your text naturally about the niche. Google is smart enough to know what words are related to a topic.
    2. Relevant backlinks - backlinks are still the #1 ranking factor. Earning backlinks from sites that are in your niche will help more than anything.

Exact match of the domain name and keyword will not give you anything. And under the search filters you can get. It's better to choose a more memorable name for the site. A normal SEO can be ordered and later. Or focus on low-frequency requests of your sector.

Create a website on a short domain name that will be remembered. The exact key entry here is not important. much more important is an approximate understanding of what this site is about. Therefore, it is better to pay more attention to fillability for your key needs. correctly compose the semantic core of the site, choose low-frequency and mid-frequency requests, register metatags for pages, take up indexing, see what search SEO will be more profitable for you. This is much more in priority for your site. Such advancement is provided by the web development company . Of course, this is only a small spectrum of what is necessary for high search results.

I would go with a brandable domain but still related to a broad niche ex. MyFitLife(.)com could be used for health , diet/weight loss, fitness, food/recipes, etc. You'll get relevancy from the content not the domain name. A properly branded site will sell for more when the time comes to sell, plus it helps credibility when doing outreach and making contacts in your niche.

My anecdotal experience: my domain name is my main keywords. I rank #1 in Google for those keywords. They're not high volume words. According to Google Adwords, they receive "100-1K" searches per month. The higher the search volume for the keywords you put in your domain name, the less likely you'll score high in the search results.

Sounds like you're ranking as your brand then.

There is evidence through testing that keywords in a domain (emd/pmd) do in fact help rankings-no matter what google says. If done wrong they can look spammy in general and not to mention if someone doesn't know seo very well can over optimize having keywords in their domain.

    I like pmd(partial match domain)+brandable

I'd reverse the 9 and 0 and add a decimal to .09% of success.

It really does depend on the competition. If it's a saturated keyword there will be a lot more involved than an EMD.

To play smart is important no doubts about it, but this is the time of content, people like thing differently, catchy, something to remember by. Along with the content if your give your domain a catchy name and people would want to remember it because its funny or have a strong impact or shows your brand value then why not. having a vision is more important than anything else.
