Let’s face it, not all writers are born with the ability to write engaging content. Take a look at the numerous blogs out there and you’ll see what I mean. While they offer useful content, their style of writing lulls you to sleep instead of encouraging you to read more. But it doesn’t mean that you can’t develop this kind of talent, that is, writing with personality. Writing with personality or writing that stands out, is largely about being yourself. And this is especially important if you are blogging or writing content that speaks directly to your audience. Everyone of us has his or her own personality. Some are hyperactive while others are more laid back. It doesn’t matter what your personality is. What counts is that you are honest and you embrace who you are. For example, don’t pretend to be edgy when you aren’t. Readers hate fake personalities. But aside from being yourself, it also helps to know what your audience likes. Writing for an audience is a lot like having a conversation. You don’t blabber useless things to the person you’re talking to. You also have to listen to what he or she has to say and give your feedback. If you want to learn more how you can write with personality, you may read my article, ‘How to Write With Personality (And What You Can Learn from Ozzy Osbourne About It)’ by following this link. One way to make your writing more lively is to vary the length of sentences. That keeps readers on their toes. Also, I have found that using colloquial language can give your writing a knockabout feel that readers often warm to. Of course this isn't for everyone but I do think it works well for blogs, because the readers searching them are looking for a more honest, straightforward take on things and not a stuffy, elitist approach.
Oh yes, this one. Indeed, looking at consistent block of paragraphs can be visually boring. And using passive voice occasionally works too.
Some good suggestions here..... Would appreciate some more inputs from experienced writers. Thanks, RightMan
I am not a boring writer so I don't need to read that article. It also depends on the topic. Lets face it, some topics are just plain boring. If you change too much to keep up with trends, they call you a sellout. Case in point:Metallica [If you know a thing or three about metal].
Yep, indeed some topics are really boring but there are two things you can do about it: don't take the project or try not to show the boredom in your writing. Hehe. Oh and since we trade our talents for money, there's a sellout in all of us.

Thanks for the link. Being honest is especially important - it seems pretty obvious but how many people online are trying to write about what they don't know, claiming to be perfect?! We are all human, and you are right that dishonesty will clearly show through to readers, it just takes a bit of getting used to writing in that way. But the blogs I most enjoy are those honest ones - sometimes they are written by non-native English speakers and I don't even mind the grammar mistakes because of their honesty and personality.
Yeah, it's funny how some people pass themselves off as gurus. There are of course who are qualified to call themselves that, but there are those who are simply pretentious. Yours truly, included. LOL
