If you post a link on facebook, does that count as a backlink?

    It is a link but a no follow, social networking site such twitter and facebook are only used to gain traffic by creating a fan page in it and interacting to the people who follows the account that you created. :) that is how we use twitter and facebook. just sharing though. :)

    Yes it will count as a backlink. But they are no folow and just mainly for traffic which that isnt bad when you consider all the Friends some people have.

    most social networking sites are no follow. The point of posting on them is to try and generate site traffic and a buzz around what you are doing.

    I think they are a much bigger factor for Bing (now at 30% market share for search) as they are integrating very heavily. Yes, you have to be logged in but with Facebook integration on a ton of sites now it's not hard to mash them together. Maybe the term backlink is incorrect here but it certainly plays part in the the overall point of SEO which is about getting more traffic and visitors to a site.
