It depends on what you are marketing. I have been working on a politician's campaign as their Online Campaign Director and use the following tools: Blogging & commenting - for SEO, PR, and campaign communications Twitter - For getting the word out to grass roots org quickly Facebook - Expand support base of grass roots org, post pics and upcoming events YouTube - Almost as good as facetime with the candidate in hearing his/her position on the issues and what his/her values are. Also effective tool for supporters to put up videos showing their support and why they believe in that candidate. Google Alerts - used in conjunction with my GMail account - notified me of latest Google SERPs for my key words Netvibes - Fed me my RSS feeds and kept them updated for campaign related blog pages, online newspaper articles and YouTube videos. Acted as a "central command console" on my computer for all things related to the campaign. Allowed me to show Twitter, Gmail, Facebook and YouTube accounts on same screen. Sorry, I guess that's six marketing tips. Anyways, here's what we accomplished through using these tools: 1. When we started (after convention) our candidate had only three listings in the top fifty SERPs. In the five and a half weeks between convention and the primary election our candidate had 48 of the top 50 SERPs. 2. He faced a six term incumbent who was endorsed by a sitting President of the United States, GW Bush, as well as two U.S. Senators, was outspent by his opponent 7-1, his opponent had a paid campaign staff while our candidate had an all volunteer grass roots organization (over 1,000 volunteers) - no paid staff, his opponent was endorsed by all three local newspapers, his opponent bought free meals and trinkets to win supporters, our candidate wouldn't even buy anyone lunch, our candidate received the bulk of his campaign contributions from individual support (much like Ron Paul) while his opponent received most of his money from PACs, Special Interest Groups, and Lobbyists, his opponent incurred over $250,000 in campaign debt while our candidate ran a debt-free campaign. In other words, the odds were stacked against our candidate. 3. At the primary our candidate trounced his opponent by a margin of 60% to 40%, an unheard of coup in all of recorded political history. When used properly, these tools are powerful stuff!
