If you found out your baby was going to be born retarded, would you keep it?

No. I personally think that the life of a person who is mentally disabled is rough, and it would be tough to handle that. I would much rather adopt an already existing baby (that may have a disability) and bring it up instead. It's hard to explain, but I think society has still not accepted the disabled.

What kind of retarded question is this?
If its my child, regardless he/she retarded, have a disability etc, I will still keep him/her as they are my flesh and blood.
Unless one are looking for a perfection, they are not worth of having a child. Not when thinking like this.

Amen to you Nintendo! No offense but IMO those who would kill their baby because they know that she/he will come out retarded, they are self-centered and heartless parents with no b*lls. Saying that they just don't want to let their child suffer more by living is a very lame excuse.

No reason can ever let me kill my own child.

it's very hard to decide, especially when the decision must be taken by the mother...and there are much more situation when you're in the position to make up your mind about getting birth to a very ill baby, not only with serious mental problems...
but I'll say that from all the reasons we need to think about the hard life expected by the retarded child, about his chances in this cruel world...
    I rather would say no...unfortunately :(

Of course I would, it's your baby at the end of the day, it'll just have some problems.

And yes, I would keep it like I just stated.

Wow, this thread has a lot of strong and extremely polar viewpoints.

My personal opinion is that, depending on the severity of the disability, I probably wouldn't keep the child. If it was something minor like lesser autism or asperges, then that's not much of a problem. If the child is going to be a burden to me for the rest of my life and have a lesser quality of life due to their condition, then no, I wouldn't keep the child.

However, I'm giving this opinion yet I've never had any children. I don't think anyone knows how they would react if this happened to them and they had to make the choice of whether to keep their own child or not. I'm very thankful that I live in a country where the law states that a woman can make that choice for herself. Frankly the American attitude towards abortion scares me, especially when people criticize doctors and mothers for being "murderers" when in fact abortion is a natural part of human life and has been since the dawn of mankind.

These people would do well to watch George Carlin on Abortion. The rest of you will get a laugh out of it too. Despite being comedy it hits the nail on the head and highlights the ridiculous attitudes some people have towards abortion.

    Very tough question..

I actually don't know what will be my answer to that question. I'd love to have a baby, i love kids but I don't want to see her/him suffering from his condition.
