If you find a image & crop it and maybe resize it then is it still a copyright image?

    Hi,

I need a few images and were wondering that if you find an image that maybe copyright material, then if you crop it and maybe also resize it then will it still be copyright material to that owner or will it become copyright to me as I have modified something, which once was and made something new.

I would like to know this quite urgent as I know nothing about image copyright when it comes to modifying the image and would like to use some images if it is legal.

    Thanks!

Those changes do not negate the copyright.

Do you mean that doing the changes still means that it is copyright and I can't use the image(s)

You will still be in violation of copyright. That falls under derivative works. The copyright owner has exclusive rights that disallows anyone else from using their copyrighted image to create a new work (such as resizing, incorporating into another image etc).

In the case of resizing, this won't even fall under a derivative work since it will still be the same image (only smaller).

You can get $1 stock photos on istockphoto.com. No need to worry about copyright.
