I want to have a custom, unique template designed for my directory but I'm having a tough time deciding how I want it to look and what features to include. If you were designing your own template, what are some of the things you would like to include as far as design and and design features? Would it be plain yet fuctional or would it have all the bells and whistles? I like the "random featured links" I see on some directories for instance. How about the "page rank" breakdown? I think it looks nice but does it really serve a funtion? I'm not necessarily talking about differents mods but more about design elements (which may include some mods)
I would definitely add some space for ads or sponsors, it can either work for resources or your own websites but that part should be included in all designs. Another common thing I have worked with is rss news on the front page...
i would include statistics and a blog intergrated in it because these two looks good ... also the deep link mod and make your detail page as detailed as poss. yet good looking also if u can get sidebars on both side because that gives you more room to add more stuff.
And here's an example of Aspidov's work which includes those suggestions: http://www.linklister.co.uk/
Yep, Aspidov is the man for skins, very patient and accommodating and will include mods in the design, an0n is the guy for some awesome mods
I appreciate your testimonials. Another great design on one of Steve's directories is comming this week so stay tuned for announcements.
Some really great directories with remarkable template designs. Lots of different elements to consider.
