There is no way you can get away or get any decent ranking by just doing one thing..even if it is a Dmoz listing.
Make sure you have a strong enough page that doesn't already exist in the external links and add yourself, that's what I've done and now I have 20+ wikipedia backlinks.
Depending on what your aims are with the site.. If you want organic traffic.. 1. Original content (this will increase your chance of getting listed in authority sites/directories and want people to link with you) 2. Build links ..(this is a huge area ..read this forum) 3. Keep updating the site with fresh content. You dont need to submit to SEs. If you have links they'll find you. When you think your site is worth, try submitting to yahoo Dir free. You never know your luck. When you are really ready, try to get in Dmoz. With how G is now, be prepared for about a year to get anywhere near the first page if it is a new domain.
If I could do one thing...hmm.....I'd hypnotise people to buy from me Anyhow on the linkbuilding side...there isn't anything like just one quick fix. I'd do a huge contest to gain crazy amount of links.
Because submition is very good thing to gain or indexing your link to google. But submitting to Directories who are already indexed in Google OK.
I tried submitting a site to Wikipedia with a lot of relevant content to the article, and it was deleted in 2 minutes because it was a "spam link". Could it have been because it had Adsense on the page?
heh i would trick firefox and internet explorer coders to set my site as start page (+ without the option of changing it)
