    if you copy a highly SEO optimized site, will your copied site rank below it ?

    also if you post on forums, is that backlinking ?

    hostingfresh is correct. plus, even if your site is not closed, you may not just get as much traffic as the origin...SEO is not everything

    Do not copy others, try to make your own site and make it better!

    Posting in a forum is back-linking but useless if you do not use the correct keywords.

    As others have said copying a site is not a good idea.

    But if you were to do it, you would also need to copy all the backlinks that site has to it for it to rank around the same area of the listings. There are other factors as well. Your domain name would be different and the age of the domain would also be different.

    Duplicate content gets penalised. Also incoming links have a massive amount to do with how you rank.

    Copying others is bad and can close your site down.

    Coping ≈ rewriting . Sometimes it is recommended .
    It depends on how much do you copy .

    Are you talking about copying the HTML, like this?...

    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html dir="ltr" lang="en">
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />
    <meta name="generator" content="vBulletin 3.6.8" />

    <meta name="keywords" content="if you copy a really good site" />
    <meta name="description" content="if you copy a really good site (from General Marketing)" />

    If so, you may or may not land above him. It all depends on backlinks each site has too.

    Besides, I have seen sites with NO optimizing done, and these landed high.

    That's the way the search engine computers are. There is no rhyme or reason to them.
