Seriously, why not use googles free adword keyword tool to check for traffic. I'm tempted to use others than remember I want traffic from G so why not trust the same place I'm getting my traffic from to be honest with the keywords? Can anyone give me an example or a valid reason not to use googles keyword tool? thx
Because it's not in numbers. If you could display it in numbers please kindly tell me how. A 3/4 full green bar for keyword "insurance" is different from 3/4 full green bar for keyword "atrial". Which one is higher, a half bar "insurance" or full bar "atrial"? Others that display numbers are more "guess-able".
Yup thats probably it Its hard to gauge exactly how many people with google without some sort of hard comparison.
what weighs more? a ton of bricks or a ton of feathers? That's basically what your asking, not to make fun of you...It's relative to how much traffic Google deems it in the grand scheme of the whole. So 1/2 bar for "atari" is the same 1/2 bar for "flapjacks". Even though unrelated it means both keywords bring in roughly the same amount of traffic...whatever that is; I know it doesn't give exact numbers but it gives a good understanding of what phrases get traffic and which ones don't. PLUS, it's a google tool...used to find good kws FOR Google. Everything is relative. I like to go after terms with avg or better search results. So I ask again, what is the point of not using this tool? Does it lie about the traffic?
Now this is where you are not looking the correct picture my friend. We use Google Tool for determining which keyword variation (which is from one root) we should do first. E.g. "insurance", "life insurance", or "car insurance" should we do first? The small green bar is useful up to some point. a 1/2 bar of "insurance" is way a lot than 1/2 bar of "atari". If you go to wordtracker, "insurance" has 17,255 results while "atari" is only 592. That's 29 times bigger. Judging only by that factor we would want to create website on "insurance" not "atari" even though if both shows the same bar in Google Tool. This is where Google Tool is "useless". Most people will also compare the "demand per competition" factor. By going to Google search we can get how many websites competing for that keyword. We get the competition number. So how could we get the demand number? Of course we can not simply guess it to get it from that small green bar. This "demand per competition" factor (e.g. KEI), is the foundation of keyword choosing system. This is absolutely useful for determining which keyword we are choosing between relatively close keywords, like "insurance" and "car insurance". By carefully examining this demand per competition number we could have more success by using less effort. What is the use of having tons of searches but also tons of authoritative competitors? For me this demand per competition factor is not a feather, it's more than bricks. This is the essence and foundation of keyword choosing. It's the core of SEO. By having high demanded keyword with no competition we could build a page and make money without ever building any backlinks. After all we never really use ONLY wordtracker or ONLY overture or ONLY GoogleTool. Using only one tool is not a very "wise" move. We use combination of them. We never said that we never use Google Tool. However, if we are asked which one, and only one, that is the most useful we would say "not the GoogleTool".
point taken..nice post. Have you found success using Overture...if you could pm me some step by steps that would be pretty awesome. I don't care about being right, just want to get a good analytical approach to things.
Thank you. Basically pretty the same like all others SEO books. However, there is "unwritten rule" that if you take Overture search results and times it 10, you could "predict" Google's number.
