If someone redirects a porn domain to your site, can you take him to court?

    Hi guys,

I am very sure, that I have grounds to take legal action on someone who is redirecting his porn domain to my site in order to affect my standings in the SERPs.

But please fill me up, because this idiot is about to be reported by me...and it's not going to be pretty.

You see I have a rather good ranking site, and this idiot hopes that by redirecting to my site a porn domain, he can jepeordize me.

I've already told Google and I know they are not stupid, they've seen it all. But what else can I do...report the domain to his registrar?

Ironically, his domain is sitting on the same registrar as mine, so believe me, I or anyone can track him down...his real name and where he lives...etc.

I am just asking has any of you experienced this problem. I know there are many jealous and desperate idiots in this world, you don't have to tell me that.

What would you do? Just asking your opinions. I think I know who he is, and he is actually a DP member here....

I hope he has the decency to remove the redirection, before I take action....

If you can prove commercial loss as a result then you definately can if you have solid evidence of who did it, when and if you can prove a drop in profit as a result even better

    1) Pick up an .htaccess tutorial.
    2) Redirect his domain to Google.

Is there a case in the first place? :) I sincerely doubt you can build a case on that.

As I said, you can easily use .htaccess to redirect it somewhere else.

    I second this comment! :D

But seriously, the short answer is that this is America: You can sue any one for any reason. You may have a case for defamation though depending on the details (the Devil is always in the details). The more "legit" (for lack of a better word) your site is, the better. For example, if your site is a registered trade mark and the naughty linker has large amounts of in bound links for his domain name and is continuing to build links with pornographic terms in the anchor text, then you would have a serious case. On the other hand, if your site is a blogger blog and you don't even pay taxes on the few pennies you get from adsense ads and the other guy has NO inbound links, then it'd be very tough to prove any defamation of character is taking place.

In reality, what you really have is a case of Google bombing. George Bush used to show up first for the term "Miserable Failure" and Tony Blaire for "liar". Do you really think the pages got LESS traffic because of this? Do you suppose that ad clicks on these pages would earn any less from a visitor who came from Mr. Porn's link than one who came through on of your links? MilkShake has it right when he says be happy with the additional traffic. You've got access to your web logs...check to see how often his site is even referring traffic. It may be that you're getting one or two bots a month visiting your site and that's it. The jerk may just be trying to get your dander up (and being quite successful at it from the sound of it).

If you really want to hurt the jerk's feelings, cry all the way to the bank. Check the referrer of your incoming traffic using your htaccess file. If the visitor is coming from him, forward it to your own page of affiliate links for porn (just make sure to disallow spider's in your robots.txt!!). No, I'm not saying put up your own porn site, just have an affiliate link adult friend finder or something. Heck, you could even do a meta refresh to autoforward them.

This guy is obviously trying to bully you, so rather than getting upset, work with it. Once he realizes that you're no fun to pick on, he'll give up.

I gotta hear more before I pass judgement. There is something not right in the way you describe all this.

Any chance you will let us know your site...or at least the pr0n site?

I mean really...do you know for a fact that his intentions are to harm your SERPs? And to be honest...I am not even sure you could ever prove that.
