Heh, I can't believe it! I've had a particular Adwords ad group running for almost two months now. It points to a new site of mine that gets no real traffic yet at all. Anyway, today, out of the blue, this ad group sends a 2 cent content network click to my site. That was the only hit on the site all day, so I know exactly when and where and so on. The darned thing ended up in a click on Adsense for over $1. Woohoo! Must repeat this process!!! The page in question has only ever had 7 impressions (over 2 months), so I can't even get any useful statistics from it... Anyhow, for those of you not getting any Adsense love, it is both this simple and this difficult...
So, I spent almost the entire night beefing up my keyword lists in an attempt to get more cheap traffic to pages that are converting. However, a small tip. I noticed in Google analytics that you can view the conversion tracking for keywords down to the position that the keywords were displayed in Adwords. Since I do track Adsense clicks (among other things) as conversions, it means that some positions have widely different revenue characteristics. I was surprised! I am guessing, for example, that being picked out of the results below the top requires the user to have done more reading, to choose to click on your ad. It seems, at least for the types of ads that I'm runnning, for the content that it leads to, that such users are the ones that will then click Adsense ads on my site. Interesting stuff, give it a look and see if you can take advantage of any subtle user behavior patterns.
