The bombs did kill people (including Ayres girlfriend) when the one intended for an Army NCO dance detonated prematurely. His organization went on to an armored car robbery during which cops were murdered during the phase where Ayres himself was on the run... his current wife was convicted of witholding information on that one. The group he helped found was a full fledged domestic terrorist group. I was around at the time... the botched comedic bullshit of Liddy's plumbers was laughed at, they were a bunch of idiots... whereas the Weather Undergrounds activities was real live domestic terrorism.

btw - Nixon didnt win the presidency because of the Watergate bs. Liddy's crew was a bunch of ineffective boobs.

Many racists are voting for Obama. There are those voting for him only because of his skin color and I am betting that that percentage is far greater than those voting against only because of color.

Their effectiveness is not all that relevant. What's important was their intent, that they actually went through with it, and the implications that these actions could have on the election of the President.

As if committing felonies to gain an edge in the election isn't bad enough in the most smooth and peaceful of times, these crimes were perpetrated during one of the most turbulent times in our history. Nixon was in charge of a war that had already killed 50,000 Americans at that time. We were in the middle of the cold war, etc.

So Nixon was trying to gain an advantage illegally to acquire the highest office during one of the most dire times in our history.

IMO, the weathermen could have killed hundreds and it wouldn't have matched the egregiousness of Watergate. The weathermen still would not have effected the direction of world history the way a President does. So the process that grants the Presidency is even more precious than a few human lives, since even more lives lie in the balance with the Presidency.

I'm not apologizing for Ayers, btw, he's a terrorist. But I don't believe his group posed a fundamental threat to our nation the way that the Nixon crew did.

Let's talk intent. The intent of the Weather Underground's shrapnel laden bomb that detonated prematurely killing Ayres girlfriend and members of his gang and put Ayres on the run was to kill and maim as many US military personnel and their girlfiends/spouses as possible at an NCO dance. Here's a shot of what it did instead:

If intent to murder people serving their country and their loved ones falls below election dirty tricks in your book... that'd mean ACORN is worse than Timothy McVeigh (which I dont think is true). Guess we just have to disagree.

Have to agree. That is despicable.

Now if only a major candidate running for President of the United States would stand up and denounce this act....

I'm feeling pretty good about the energy here in southwestern Virginia. I think (most) people really know it's time for a major change.

I went around door to door this morning volunteering for the Obama campaign. Most of the people I talked to had already voted for Obama and they were mostly very enthusiastic and had a very positive energy about them.

But I did run into one woman who was a McCain voter and her demeanor was totally different. She said "I voted early this morning and I wish I could have voted 100 times AGAINST HIM." (she nodded at the Obama brochure I had in my hand) and then slammed the door. Just a nasty nasty attitude. Notice that she didn't want to vote 100 times FOR McCain - but AGAINST Obama. That's the sad thing for the GOP they have no one to vote for. They only have ignorance & fear.

I hope everyone makes sure that everyone they know gets out and votes for Obama today. We have to overcome this ignorance and fear. If we let it win, our country will continue to spiral down the tubes.

She was probably just a racist. Had to be. Who else would vote against Obama?

One of the less endearing things around here is the crew that constantly insists everyone that disagrees with them on principle is doing so due to ignorance. Kinda goes hand in hand with accusing people of "intellectual dishonesty" right before being cornered into admitting you dont really CARE if your own candidate is lying or not. Might wanna tone down the rhetoric a tad Zibbie... it isn't exactly showing your best side.

There's a big difference in a independent organization like ACORN engaging in dirty tricks and a sitting President doing it. This stuff has gone on through history with groups on both sides. If you can't see the difference between a group like ACORN registering Donald's newphews and a sitting President sending out henchmen to commit felonies in order to gain an unfair advantage in taking the most powerful office in the world, then yes, you're right, we'll have to disagree.

Sorry I don't have a graphic of Nixon and Liddy dry anal raping democracy to compare with your burning building.

Nixon didnt "rape" democracy any more or less than the Democrat fella from Texas named Johnson right before him... who had a knack for getting votes from under-represented sections of the populace... specifically the dead. I dont approve of that, didnt approve of Nixon's black bag boys... but neither compares to a bomb in an NCO dance, and neither of em started groups that went on to shoot cops while robbing a brinks truck. I not only wouldnt sit at the same table with Ayres, I wouldnt piss on his head if his hair caught fire.

We don't have to agree on that, but I'd put trying to murder servicemen over political dirty tricks.

That's not entirely true and you know it... (Johnsons parents were married). LOL.

Hey, election results are in (and god am i glad I was too busy working thru a computer prob last night to watch the returns). For better of worse, he's got the role, and I'm at least thankful we didnt end up with a dubious and drawn out contest on election day. Anyway, here's to hoping the guy lives up to your expectations rather than mine.
