If IE was a person, I'd punch it in the face!

    ok..here i go.

    I've been having some trouble designing for Ie. You see, IE6 doesn't work with transparent png's (sighs), so a png I'm using looks like crap. Anyone have any suggestions to what I should do. Take a look yourself.

    http://www.dodesign.fh-net.com/thewriter/index.php

    Is there a way to display the transparent part only in FF and display something different in IE?

    EDIT: on a sidenote, if you have any comments/suggestions about the design, let me know :)

    The border images. Like on the outside of the main part of the site. Make sure you're using ie6 :(

    IE 6 is a browser of the past, upgrade to 7. Firefox has it's own issues aswell.

    IE5.5 and 6 are known to have no clue about handling PNG transparency. I have not tested your site in detail but first thing that came to my mind when I saw that grey in IE 6 was this. PNG. You will need to use javascript based workarounds to make it work.

    And yes, IE is a person, Bill? :rolleyes:

    I've never had problems with IE 7. I use it and Firefox; and IE's a bit faster.

    IE6 is a different story..

    With the new IE7 I can't get any more satisfaction from trying to get used to the new location of the Reload & Stop icons.
    Separating them from the Back & Forward was a good idea. Wish I knew what they were thinking.

    definately is the IE6 issue with PNG transparency problem.. you can redo it where the image files are gif files so that IE6 will know how to handle the transparency (which im sure leaves you with jagged edges) or prob better thing to do is follow this little tutorial on getting javascript to remove the ugly grey color

    I would do it but it wont work with images in a .css

    Out of curiosity, about what percent of people use ie7 over ie6? Maybe i wont bother changing it :)

    I'd say it's a matter of tine till majority gets IE7 running. Upgrades may take minutes for the curious. Or months to the lazy.
    Sooner or later, all will be using the latest browser version..

    I got IE7 about as soon as it came out. It works nicely for me. It's a bit cleaner than IE6 and supposedly more secure. And as I mentioned, it's faster for me than FF, though I still use both.

    I absolutely loathed IE 7 when it first came out but had to use it for work purposes; but I'm slowly getting used to it.

    I still <3 Firefox, though.

    The only time I am using it is when checking cross-browser compatibility of my design work..
    Wish that weren't necessary but then again, so many browsers, so many headaches.

    Thank you so much! It almost fixed my problems! Fixed it partially :)

    This is what my .css looks like: (the part of it that matters)

    #containertop {
    background-image:url(images/containertop.png);
    background-repeat:no-repeat;
    height:30px;
    width:678px;
    behavior: url(iepngfix.htc);
    }

    #containermiddle {
    background-image:url(images/containerbg.png);
    background-repeat:repeat-y;
    width:678px;
    behavior: url(iepngfix.htc);
    }

    #containerbottom {
    background-image:url(images/containerbottom.png);
    background-repeat:no-repeat;
    height:30px;
    width:678px;
    behavior: url(iepngfix.htc);
    }

    Code (markup):
    Basicly, the layout is divided into a top, a middle, and a bottom div. The top and bottom work perfectly, but the middle div's background won't show up anymore. Anyone have any way to fix that? So far so good :)
