I would be interested in sponsoring a new template or three.... in order to build some backlinks. If i sponsor a template, how am I protected? Can webmasters just remove the links? how would I find sites that have done this? The links I want to create will be to the site in my sig link. thanks MOG
ps. also, would it be normal/acceptable to have TWO sites in the footer link in your opinions? thanks again MOG
Yes webmasters can remove the links and often do, they may ignore requests to put them back in place or even become aggressive, the reason is that they know the template owner cant do anything about it, as its not worth the hassle, unless the webmaster lives down the road from you and you can pay a visit. Any threat of legal action will just make them laugh as its not practical. For all the people that leave the links in place threres going to be at least one per template that will say FU basically.
thats what I was 'fraid of... surely there is some way of encoding it... I guess that'll be in a future release at some point. (Im sure im not the first person to have thought about this lol!!) thanks anyway, MOG
I imagine in most cases you would probably be quite lucky and that the majority will not remove anything. I know what you mean though, if you can prevent any loss then all the better.
I guess there should be some way of encoding those links, like many of the wordpress theme designers do.
I've sponsored 3 templates so far and only once when i was submitting to a directory in which was a template i sponsored the links was gone. So i contacted the template creator and gave him the info. The directory owner didn't pay for removal and eventually put the links back but what about the other hundreds of directories that could be doing same thing by removing links? Not much can be done but i'll contact template creator and let him know. That's only thing that can be done. Sucks but that is the risk in sponsoring templates. I prolly should just write articles to get backlinks instead of sponsoring templates. lol
I think you posted this in the wrong forum. I presume you mean directory templates. Links can easily be removed. Put at most 2 small sized links in the footer and you wont have a problem. Put 4 long tailed keywords there and nobody will want to use your theme.
Yes ... ive bought a few then was told that they are not removable then after i paid for the template i was told that it was a mistake and that they can still remove the link so... But yes it sure would be nice if we could sponser templates like wordpress with non removable links or IMAGES banner ect ect thx malcolm
Even then of course you can have people use your articles and remove your name and links. In the past i had a submitter to one of my directories have an article in place on his submitted site with the attribution stripped out, i emailed the person but never heard back, i was polite too, asked him where he picked up the article as at first it may not be his fault. The person ignoring my question pretty much answered it for me though, lol
pretty much it is really hard to do so, but i do believe there can be some programming done and you leave a code in the template that if it is removed the template breaks up or something, but i think it requires custom work. You would need a strong server that can run the tracking script and each of the templates will have this one code (if that is removed the entire script is useless). Just what i have realized that theives will find a way to steal ... so all you can do is announce them in public or just don't waste your time with them as many others are using your theme with the link back. e
Yep but templates that have encoded links can still be hacked to where you can change stuff its easy to do. Or people who use the old break apart template when something is changed can be hacked to so its all futile.
I've always felt that, although template sponsoring will ideally bring you alot of backlinks, it can also bring a lot of harmful backlinks, especially from those pharmacy and adult-only directories. Hmm, opinions are like assholes, though
I have never done this yet, but if I did I would insist on the HTML code to be encrypted all but the header, may not be full proof, but would help
