Recently I have woken up to AdSense (ok it was a while back) but since then when I find a site that I like I click on the ad's just to support the site really

Does anyone else have any habits like this ?

If everyone did this then nobody would be able to make money from Google AdSense.

no I think that is bad for the advertisers because it fucks them up. then they will be less likely to advertise and the publishers/site you like will lose out as well, just not directly.sometimes i DO click on advertisers not with the intent to buy but because i am interested in their sites and what they have to offer in the market although i know it is unlikely i'll buy from them.

no it's not win/win, maybe lose/lose because the advertiser will advertise less since his results are poorer then the publisher will have less advertisers

Yes, Futures is right about this. If you click on ads with no intent on buying a product, less advertisers will equal less money for the site owner. But let's be honest here, not many people will just click for fun, so it's not really a big problem. In the case Adam is trying to bring up it won't really cause problems but just give the owner an extra click or two.

Just when I thought I've seen it all.....

Dude! Somebody is paying money to display those ads (through their Adwords account) and you are wasting their money. So...get rid of that habit, it's a terrible thing to do. For now I just assume that you had good intentions but, didn't know how the system works.....

What you're doing is abusing the trust system.

Whaooo...Let's not overreact here. One person on the Internet clicking a few ads isn't completely ruining the system. His acts have such a muniscule effect on the total publishers system on Google it honestly doesn't matter. If every single member on this site was to do the same thing it still wouldn't have any big effect.

Nobody is overreacting (so far :)). He thinks he's doing something nice while doing just the opposite and people are trying to explain him that.

With you logic, you can steal laptops from dell and it won't be a big deal because Dell is such a big company, it won't be affected. Now if everybody starts doing it...then it's bad.....

I think you should click the ads only if you are really interested. I also used to think that clicking ads for no reason would be good. But I realized that this will not be good for the adsense industry. Not for google, Not for us.

    Sorry :(

It looks to me like a great idea for an eBook how about 'I destroyed Google Adwords and Google Adsense in 10 days'

    I could make millions :)
