My phone would have been the same size as my text books, lol ... and calls would have been like $20 each ... that makes me feel really old ...

I was a junior in high school when I got my first cell phone. Ahh yes, the good ol' Nokia phone with the covers that could be changed! Those covers were $20 a pop! I will tell you one thing though, that phone was indestructible.

I remember those, I'm 17, gonna be 18 this year. But anyway, my dad had one of those a looooong time back. Loved the ball game(no pun, thanks) on it.

At least you can appreciate the advancements in technology just a little more than the younger generation. We younger folks will be amazed by technology the same way 20-30 years from now.

I got my first cell phone (I think it was a 101, or something very similar) the year after I dropped out of high school. 1993.

I wore it on my belt (oh so 90s!), and it used to pull my pants down.

Actually it was drug dealers, doctors, and kids who had their parents recently get divorced and fight with eachother over who gets custody.

Back then, the voice quality was so much better than it is today.
When I can actually get a signal (Optus Australia sucks in country Australia) on my modern day mobile phone, the voice quality sounds like tin cans and string.

I'd almost consider carrying an analog monster again, just for the better vocoding.

A phone the size of your textbooks would be called the I-Pad. Phones nowadays are certainly much smaller and more capable than their predecessors.

I remember the big Motorola MicroTAC that looked like walkie-talkie instrument; back in 90s when I was a student!

Seen it hanging around the waists of only the elite, here in India. Funny part is that those days even the incoming calls were charged around Rs. 28.
