A few of Amazon checks got lost so I'm considering in choosing the gift certificates option to get paid. The problem is that I won't use them, so can I sell them on, let's say, ebay? Cheers.
Cool, a million thanks BTW, what do you recommend me to look for /to do to avoid scammers? I've seen sellers on ebay that asks for at least 30 feedback points to the buyer.
I'd figure out how to get the checks. Why take a cut in pay? You going to get face value out of a gift certificate... no.
I had at least one cheque get lost too. It was fine, Amazon cancelled it and sent me another, but it was a hassle and I must admit I would much prefer to just get a direct transfer to my account, or perhaps PayPal, but I doubt either will be happening soon. Cheques are such an old-fashioned and inconvenient way of getting paid, it can take over a month for the cheque to clear in my part of the world!
If your getting paid in US Dollar cheques to other countrys, then you are going to lose money one way or another. I am in the UK and use a US bank account, but not everyone can do that. If I didn't have that US account then I would be paying at least £40 to pay in each cheque, which seems a small amount but it adds up year to year (and also I don't like putting unnecessary money in the banks coffers!=)
Unfortunately, some of us don't have a US bank account as such can not use direct deposit. I live in the UK as well and get charged £10 to deposit my cheque into my Abbey account. Is there anyway I can set up a US account? £10 for a year is £120. That's money I would rather using on something else. Any tips?
Yes I have, its your lucky day Sign up for a Citibank US Dollar account. They are totally free and cost you nothing to deposit cheques, which you do by post. Your balance stays in US Dollars, so I tend to use this to buy things online with the debit card (link it to a Paypal account) or I withdraw money from a cash machine when I am in the US. Otherwise you could do a bank transfer to a UK account (check the fees on this for conversion etc.). http://www.citibank.co.uk/personal/banking/international/currency.htm?merchant=citi I have saved a lot of money doing this
I wouldn't bother trying to deal with selling gift certificates because you'd be wasting both time and money dealing with the sales.
Checks are still the safest way, after direct deposit. Amazon will always void and re-issue lost cheques, so even if they get stolen, noone can cash them.
