The Sandbox Effect is NOT universal.

I started several websites in the past three years and they ranked well on Google from Day 1, and STAYED there. The industries were quite competitive. I outranked websites that were a decade old and with huge budgets, and to this day they haven't recovered their ground.

Do a good job and don't worry about it.

Yeh Oberon is right. I to started a few new sites and got ranked for some long tail keyword from day one. Just make sure that you are on google white list and everything will be find.

It depends on the former content of the site. If the site has never been used, it is going to be treated as if it was a brand new domain - even if it was registered 10 years ago. If you change the niche, it will likely be treated as a new site. The sandbox only applies to certain competitive keywords - so long tail keywords that aren't competitive aren't going to be affected anyway.
