We see the auctions on GoDaddy for domains with PR.. when the auctions end and you have won it, will the domain retain it's PR or lose it for being dropped? Thanks

My initial reaction would be "Yes" but only if the site remained constant in content and structure from the point it dropped. This is a really good question - especially for domainers - and I very interested in hearing the thoughts of others.

It depends on your optimization.. cause if you just buy domain than changing whole website to different than what I believe common sense that it will be disappear your PR, but if you buy the whole website including domain than Off course it will stay until if you manage it properly...

I hope this answers your question..

    Thanks

Backlinks are backlinks, picheverte is right. I think a domain simply parked though will over time lose its value and ultimately PR. I don't think a site redesign would make the PR disappear necessarily Alamest, do you have experience with this happening?

The domains at godaddy auction are not dropped. However, don't buy domains for PR even if they are old and not dropped. They lose their PR's.

I bought a "previously owned" domain and it had PR 4.
I think there was a lapse of around 3 months before I bought it, and maybe the PR didn't show up right away.

This is the best advice given here. If the backlinks are there, the PR will bounce back.

PR will stay, just don't change registrars. If you transfer it to another registrar, PR will disappear.

The domain I bought was most definitely with a different registrar, one in the US to one in the UK, but the PR stayed.

For a while PR definitely dropped when domains did, but today people say it's hit or miss.

If the links were never removed, then your PR should be fine.

The most important thing after buying such domains is whether you gonna keep the site going in the same niche or you going to change the niche of the site. Second comes the backlinks, if the link building has stopped for almost more than a couple of months or just a month, you need to have a great link building plan to get it up again. Third will be the content, how good and original you write on that site, compared to the one it was already there when it had a PR. Normally when buy such domains, you should be prepared for the worst only because to have to first target and plan to just maintain the PR and then implement some strategies to raise its PR.
