Hey Everyone I've got a sort of network site, and I have some BANS sites on subdomains. I also have loads of other stuff (some completely unrelated) spread across my subdomains. Now I've seen on the BANS site that Google seems to be peanalising BANS sites, and I was wondering, if the subdomain gets peanalised / banned, will the rest of the domain be effected? Thanks!
Yes, remember a sub-domain is just a domain name system alias. So if a sub-domain was banned, most likely all hierarchy aliases for that domain and that domain itself would be banned. I'm positive that Google uses hostnames & IPs to ban websites from their index.
I don´t think so. If a robot would banned you then your main domain will be ok because robots understand the subdomain as a different domain but if a human banned your subdomain then it could be possible that he/she bans your main domain too. That is my understanding. I have an example for that too. A social networking banned my main domain but I am sending posts with my subdomain and it is fully ok. No problem.
A subdomain is still a domain name alias, most likely they would ban the entire domain name. If not, you could just change the sub-domain alias
I wasn't banned, I'm worried that I might be, or that my site might be peanalised for the BANS stores I've bought some .info domains, those'll do
I don't think that the entire domain would be banned if a subdomain gets banned. Subdomains are considered to be self-standing sites; the main domain shouldn't be affected. I'll give you an example: if a blogspot blog is banned, will the entire domain be banned? If a wordpress.com blog is banned, will the entire wordpress.com domain be banned? No, it wouldn't.
I dont think a subdomain ban would affect the entire domain.. if thats the case blogspot.com wordpress.com and countless other free hosters domains would be banned hehehe Disclaimer: I might be wrong _
Well blogspot doesn't have a problem, Google own it, I don't know about wordpress.com. Maybe they get exempt because they offer free hosting? :\
A while ago someone on dp suggested that a subdomain interlinked with the main domain was treated as part of the main site, whereas one that was not interlinked was treated as a separate site. So a subdomain with links to and from the main domain is treated as part of the main domain - and they would both be banned together. That would also explain why an individual blogspot / wordpress blog can be banned without the whole site being banned, because blogspot.com etc don't link to the individual subdomains. Sounds plausible, I think. I haven't tested it because I don't want anything banned, even a subdomain.
Sub-domain is treated by google in the same way as domain, unless they are strongly linked. If google uses hostnames & ips to ban websites how it's possible that shared hostings are still doing fine? About a year ago google banned about 20 my subdomains, but main domain is still in google index; the same thing happened with some of my other subdomains/domains. You have any proof for your theory about bans on main domains/ips?
imagine a blogspot blog with alot of spam, it could get banned but blogspot.com would obviously be intact.
Google is not banning BANS sites. I should know, I have nearly 100 stores. Google is going through a huge algo/dance right now. Just relax.
This is different story. Be sure also google are aware of such sites. The sub-domain is just a system alias of the domain name, if it gets banned, I'm 90% sure all the related aliases will be banned also. Otherwise you could easely manipulate google.
There are sites where everyone can have a free subdomains, incase some how, someones subdomain is banned, Now will this means that all other sub domains + the main domain will be banned too ? Not sure.
