IE8 is in beta. Give it a break. BTW if you've installed the beta it works pretty good and has some cool features. In fact I believe it is better than FF3 beta.

As 'drhowarddrfine' has stated, IE is the devil for all developers. In the past, and even just a few days ago, I had to spend an extra 5+ hours of work just to get my code to work in IE. This required the integration of Javascript that in any other browser I could have simply used simple CSS to acheive.

    I hate IE.

I think we need to state what kind of users we are, as this makes up for a huge part of everyones opinion. I doubt you will hear of any developers who actually 'like' or 'enjoy' working with IE.

Are you a developer or simply a user of the browser?

IE7 has to make sure it is backward compatible with older web pages that might not be up to current W3C web standards. For that reason it might pose a little more problem. But just get used to it cause IE is here to stay for now and in fact it is not loosing the race against FF. Its holding its ground.

It is really amazing to me that about 80% of the site visitors I get still use IE. Played with the new IE8 Beta, hated it (although I may be biased!).

The SEO pluggins for FireFox just kick butt and MS is not really catching up yet. I think for pro web folks that need speed on the net, FF is the only way to go.

Financial institutions (of which I deal with a lot!) do have some hangups if you aren't using IE but they are all getting better all of the time.

The sheer fact you made 2 posts and still felt the need to PM and harass me about it speaks volumes your "foolsihnesser" And how many times can you repeat yourself in one statement and just state it different ways?

anyway, i've had just as many problems from display issues as i have IE, they will never be a "standard" so just get use to it

Never heard of anyone having to spend 5 hours tweaking a site for any browser. What Javascript thing did you have to do?

That's why I love ASP.NET. It renders pure standard HTML code that works perfect in any browser ;)

Here's my personal breakdown on this one for anyone who may care...

    Using

Work = IE 6 and they won't update for another 2 months. Someone. Put me out of my misery. Please Anyone. Shoot me ;) Browsing the web in the office is hell!

Home = Firefox + IE 7 and while I used to primarily use Firefox.. now it's a tie between FF and IE7. While FF wins out on most features there is 2 sites for business who have a third party (you can laugh at this one) security plugin you need to use IE to login with. Since IE is open anyway for those sites *shrugs* it gets used now and again. After the service packs it's really not 'that' bad compared to when it was new. It's still not FF but from the user end it's not bad.

    Coding php/html/css
Firefox wins hands down on ease of use to code for. There is no argument I can think of that would work around this ;)

    Yes it is.
    One more advantage.
Google Toolbar does not work with FF3, but works beautifully with IE8.

And a big advantage is that you can use the "back" button in AJAX apps ;)
