Support and integration of WHAT? Have you ever heard of bugzilla, it's their site setup to fixing problems and support. The fact that I've never actually NEEDED support on a webbrowser, have you ever tried to call Microsoft? It's a pure joke. I had to call a couple of times when I used to work at a computer repair shop. Microsoft support is the meaning of the work j-o-k-e. And integration... not even sure what you mean there. You can use it as your default browser and it works just like Internet Explorer except for a couple pieces of poorly written code that won't work on Firefox. If anything, IE lags out and bugs the hell out of my system, switching away from Microsoft products was the best thing that ever happened to me spite being being with a penis
Here are the two main reasons why Mozilla will not grow much bigger than it is now. The ball is no longer in their court. Microsoft has built all their web apps to not only work on IE but also FF. (Check it out when you log into hotmail in an uncompatible browser). Not only that they have courted many of the businesses that would have gone with Mozilla by offering free 24/7 customer support and free apps for businesses. Secondly I am yet to see a business or organization that oficially recognizes Mozilla as an alternative. In fact the company that I work for has made it plain that I either use IE or get it downloaded. And they are the ones that service such companies as Toy's R Us and Sears. Why is this the case? Security. Companies are not going to take any chances sending secure info over opensource browsers that the code can be modified by any person with basic coding skills.
I could have gone along with your arguments until the very end. The last bit about security is completely unfounded. To actually get your code incorporated into Mozilla's browser is quite a process, you can't just go modify it and think that it'll get in, about 59234 people review it and revise it. And as far as security, IE is about 25x less secure. Let me remind you back a few years to when Windows 2000 source code got leaked. There was a particuarly nasty little bug found with internet explorer where you take a vb script, name it .gif, and as soon as someone on IE saw it, it ran. Security as it's finest: by ignorance.
Sorry but to the companies it still stands. When something happens and sensitive info gets leaked through an opensource browser there is no one to be held responsible....didin't see that ne coming As I said before, for you and I its OK. But the minute I sign into my job its IE only. And if the truth be told many other companies are just like the one I work for.
I am a big FF fan but I am glad to see that IE8 will keep them on their toes. Nothing like competition to ensure that we end-up with good products. Opera and the others have never been in a situation to challenge FF & IE. FFMG
So they passed a test. They suck opera kicks a$$ of ie. Firefox is good but opera is way faster. For developement stuff firefox and for normal web browising opera
The Problem With Microsoft! Microsoft As you all know is a premier in computer software, I personally used to love Microsoft, they used to have really good ideas, All the windows OS they made really amazing tons to of features, good support and lots lots of stuff. But here comes the bad part, lately (since the launch of windows XP) Microsoft has been going down. What really blasts me off is all the BUGGGS in Windows XP and Windows Vista. They have thousands of programmers working full time, picked from all over the world but still cant make a proper operating system they have patched Windows XP million times over the past years maybe in couple of years time Windows XP will be perfect!.. so keep it up Microsoft! Coming to Windows Vista.. That's another story I would to call it Windows XP SP3 isn't that a better description ?! I mean compare the jump from Windows 98,2000,Ml to Windows XP huge jump, but windows Vista is like a highly patched windows XP which makes it more secure With the good looking Aero, and that it self isn't genuine ; a copy of MAC. To be fair, I'll have to mention the good search! There has been news over the last month that Microsoft is releasing Service Pack 3 for windows XP but wont be sent out to uses in the same way SP2 was sent. They say that this will Make Windows XP perfect!!!!!! Finally, after launching another Operating system! what kind of stupidity is this?! But I still hope that they really mean it this time. I'll be honest I was really fond of Microsoft and Bill Gates, I feel bad for whats happening to them right now because they are really lagging behind all other leading companies...Wait till Google announces its Operating System that's the time when Bill Gates can sit back and cry. I have sent them many emails, begging them to rethink their stupidity, but I doubt that the emails even went past the useless spam filter (Filters out real email! Most of the time) another problem is the way Microsoft is dealing with this lagging, They are copying Google and other leading companies, I have no idea who is that idiot who suggested this but its a big mistake Google makes Google Earth Microsoft copies that but with an online edition, Blogger with Windows Live spaces and a lot lot more but all don't work as good as the ones from Google. One of Microsoft Biggest failures if the Live search, Since the boom of Google search, everyone at Microsoft had a High BP, so they starting pumping millions of dollars into improving their search and they did but nothing close to the secret and excellent algorithm Google uses I can keep writing till the last day of my life about the how Microsoft is going down but I'll stop here. Happy Holidays and remember that the slight success Microsoft is still in is because of of its past not the present! I am serious. I Have posted this on my blog.
I almost agreed with you until you talked about Microsoft not being able to patch their products. For every programmer Microsoft has patching their programs you have another ten hackers trying to bring it down. Not only that but alot of those people who could help them fix their programs are working on the other end of the law to bring them down. So what do you expect. BTW Google does not seem to get something right either. Their online services will not help them capture computer users which is what they are hoping. Neither will a Google OS. IMB thought that woudl do it....they were wrong.
I refer you to my earlier post and to google about problems arousing from Windows 2000 source code being released, the largest thing that comes to mind is the fact you could rename a VB script to .jpg and have it execute by someone just looking at the code. To be short and simple, Microsoft's "security" is one of ignorance, where as security on open source systems is a tried and true method. The amount of bugs and security exploits available for open source systems is incredibly less than that of closed source systems. I've seen closed source code by manufacturers, a lot of times you have lazy programmers who code in things cheaply and easily rather than efficiently and securely because no one will ever know, and they get paid all the same. With open source systems, if you write bad code consistently, you lose your job, no one is going to keep around a programmer who can't hold his own. So to reiterate my previous point: closed source systems such as IE tend to be a lot less secure (and IE is a POS for the record) than open source systems purely based on the fact that the code IS freely available, and anyone is available to look at it and break it apart. A sendmail exploit was found 8 years after it had been introduced into the code. No one had managed to find it for 8 years, and as soon as it was found an update was released and that was the end of the story. Microsoft's "auto update" is just as bad as the original software, and I have yet to see very many patches to correctly update and patch the real underlying issues of the system.
FF2 has passed the acid test for years why would beta 3 not pass? because some people witnessed failures there was a bug/flaw and the test creators promised to fix this
It was not some people. Go read the article. Perhaps you missed that part or just talking off the top of your head
Here is another test IE passed http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2007/12/19/internet-explorer-8-and-acid2-a-milestone.aspx
