Lets face it. As many of you guys have said about Google (which I disagree) they have enough money to stomp the competition. Same thing for Microsoft. In fact Microsoft carries more clout and is much bigger than Google because Google's stocks are in non tangible items. The day the stock market crashes or something goes wrong at G HQ is the day its shares will go from the hundred region to the penny region. Mark my word.

Unfortunately the same ting applies to Mozilla. Mozilla take note of what happened to Netscape. They were much bigger than you and they fell.

    You skipped IE7 :S

I use FF for work browsing ( with addons) and Safari (for windows) for general browsing.

MS has been playing third leage in internet browsers too long. For last few years IE was just catching up to open source competitors. It is on time they release competitive version of IE. Because at the moment, FF and Opera are superior almost in all areas.

Though I doubt it because Mozilla has so huge support base of programmers, developers and testers all around world that they should be able to triumph IE once again.

Whatever Mozilla has going for them Microsoft has ten times that. The only people who like Opensource are web geeks. Tell that to consumers and they laugh you to scorn. So there again Microsoft has the lead. The only reason why Mozilla is up where it is is it has been superior to IE (until IE7 came around). Consumers much rather go with a solution that is from a reputable company where they can get support than relying on a community of users form around the world.

Well, opensource software is in many instances more advanced than commercial solutions. And you should be surprised how many people are using FF, Opera. At my college, almost everyone uses FF and the same was true for my high school some time ago.

And by the way, IE7 is still worse choise than FF or Opera. Yes, it is great improvement against IE6 (which was terrific) but still is not good enough.

And you should also know that open source software has huge potential to future. Even today you can see more and more opensource applications totally outclassing commercial ones. Open source has also very huge support all over the world. It has wide scale of proffesional developers from all over the world and is opened to modifications by usual people so you have much more possibilities (i.e. FF and tons of addons it can offer...).

    its a shocking news.....

but i think we should wait to see the Firefox response over it.

FF3 is currently in beta, maybe they improve much better in full stable release.
    just wait and watch...

Well it is good to hear that Microsoft are finally seeing sense and coming to form with web standards. When IE8 is released it should be required for users to upgrade ;) That way web coding should be easier for croos browser compatability.

First, this really doesn't mean a whole lot. Everytime Microsoft starts to work towards standards, they release a healthy dose of bugs that require patches and just creates more work for us web developers. IE being able to beat Mozilla to the punch on one little test really doesn't mean a whole lot. Unless Microsoft has cleaned up it's act and pretty much redone their browser from the beginning, it's still going to be crap.

Second, Bill Gates isn't that charitable of a person. He was making billions and it wasn't until public scrutiny that he finally opened up his wallet. Something about being the world's richest person and not giving much to charities tends to look bad.

It still lacks one main thing. Main support. Its all fine to say FF is better but when the support and integration is not there u have a good peice of software that is useless.
