IE float layout problem / IE is rubbish

    Hello. I am going a little bit insane. I've looked at articles about how IE fails to comply to standards and tried various workarounds but i can't find what's wrong with my page. please could somebody check it out and possibly suggest the problem?

    It's fine in firefox and safari but not IE.

    Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.
