If you have done everything there is to optimize your Web site, why does Google not place it higher? Even having quality backlinks doesn't affect it.

    Thanks.

google uses hundreds, if not thousands, of factors to determine ranking. there are myriads of possibilities as to why you're not ranking where you think you should be. with the limited information you gave, it's hard for anyone to make any sort of educated guess.

    but my personal hunch? sandbox.

There are a few other factors, the age of the site vs the age of other sites.
    What keywords are you targeting?

    What is the site?

For ranking high you have to beat current high rankers :)
So you have to go technically analyzing their strenght and then seo+link building :)

I'm pretty sure I'm outcoding them. My site is in divs while my competitors use tables.

The Web site is www.transversestyles.com/ and I used to be on Page 1 for around a year or so... holding rank 5 - 7. Then jagger came. In Feb, I was back to page 2 - 3 for my keywords.

I target vbulletin skins, vbulletin styles, ipb skins, ipb styles

People know about my site in my market. i get plenty of traffic, but I really think Google would help boost traffic, too.

    Thanks for any help.

By the way, I am in DMOZ.

Age of site? I've been around since early-mid 2004.

I may be sandboxed, who knows. Google is at my site daily.

    Thanks.

how often google visits you is no indication of if you're sandboxed or not.

there's not much of any evidence to suggest that using xhtml/"divs" vs. tables is going to have any impact at all on rankings. google (and other search engines) try to pick sites the users will find most relevant; clean code may be a plus, but it doesn't have anything to do with relevency, per se.

my advice? stop stressing over not ranking, work on your site, and read more about seo. :)

I've read my fair share of SEO articles and I have changed a few things. However, I really can't think of anything to change.

I don't stress about it at all because there is much more important things than Google rankings, but Google rankings are pretty important.

What boggles me is MSN and Yahoo! give me strong rankings and #1 for a lot of obscure phrases people search for.

Thanks for the help so far, very nice responses.

As you are saying after Jagger your site comes down, if this is the case...than you need genuine links. Don't go for reciprocal links....go for writing quality pages....I mean stuff your site really good informative, resourceful, and beneficial information. This will not only help in getting and retaining traffic, but also getting genuine links from other sites. This is what google wants after jagger.

    Good Luck anyway.

Personally, I think the biggest favor you could do yourself is change your title. No offense, but people will be searching for your targeted keywords and not your site or company name; having a better, concise, keyword relevant title the better your ranking will be in MSN and Yahoo in as little as a few days ... could make a difference in Google with a little more time and your current efforts.

Really sharp looking site - capitalize upon it by having a better snagging title element ;)

You have terrific backlink about 3,140 linking to www.transversestyles.com but most of ur links do not have good anchor text (the keyword that you want to rank higher for). After Jagger quality links + anchor text has gained importance.
A quick research showed that you are on page 7 of most data centers and an allinanchor result showed you on Page 8.
    1) You could move your keyword as near to the 1st position in the Title.
    2) Also put a "description" tag - with relevant information about your website.
    3) Get links with relevant "anchor text" i.e your keyword.

One thing you might consider trying, is to change the link from your "home link" to just your domain name and not the "/index.php?tsv=home" as that is where external links will point to.

I'll have a look at changing the style. I thought this would be keyword stuffing, but I guess not.

I have some solid backlinks. I'll work on the anchor text.

    Thanks.

After those few minor tweaks get fully propogated throughout the search engines I think you'll notice some major improvements; best of luck - keep us posted.

I'll be sure to do so, thanks...

Luckily, Google accounts for only some fraction of sales... I look at the high rank as icing on the cake.
