What about an icon or text that shows how long a user has bee at idle? So when you PM someone and they don't respond in an hour (but appear online) aren't ignoring you :p

Hmm this might happen, since that won't make more work on mods.

But might involve 2 extra queries maybe to the regular dp structure?
not sure shawn would like that

    Pros:
    more curiosity is pleased XD
better relations (in a way ;))

    cons:
    more queries

    2:1
    hmm

If someone is idle for 15 minutes, they don't appear as online anyway. If you really want to know, you can view a user's profile and it will give you the exact time they last did something.

    Very true. Thank you :)

If the user stays for X amount of hours with no activity (not even page loads) does he/she appear offline aswell?

no page load for 15 minutes will automatically mark the user as offline.

If you sent a PM to the user and he's online or was online after you have sent the PM, he's most likely busy or ignoring you. :D

Even if you click the "Remember me" box, when you are inactive/idle for 15 minutes, you will appear offline to others. You will appear online when you again make posts of browse the forum.

If you checked "Remember Me" box, you arent going to be offline unless
    1. You delete a cookie
    2. You switch your browser
    3. You log out manually by clucking log out button

may be more...but dont remember all

no, he still will go offline after 15 minutes of idle time. the only difference is that with the 'remember me', he won't have to log in by typing his username and pswd to post.

are you sure about it ? cos I think the Green Light will be there in the side of the username even if the person is idle for 15+ mins < meaning that the person is online > when Remember Me is being used ..!!

so , even If I am using Remember Me thingy and I simply do nothing , just leave a browser window open for DP , the green color on the right side of username will turn into blue ?
    < blue = offline >

that is correct. remember me only allows you to post without logging in (since it auto logs you in).

to clear all your doubt, do this:

go to your usercp (actually any window will do). leave that window open for more than 15 minutes. before you do anything else, take a note at the top that says:
now click refresh, or just go to another page. you'll see that 'last visited' has changed to your last 'logout' time, which you didn't realize since it's automatic.
