The Israel Defense Forces captured Wednesday a senior Hamas terrorist who helped mastermind the 2002 suicide bombing at a Passover seder at Park Hotel in Netanya, in which 29 people were killed and nearly 150 others wounded.

Omar Jabar, who headed Hamas' military wing in the West Bank city of Tul Karm, was among seven wanted Palestinians detained by the IDF early Wednesday.

Jabar was arrested in a town northeast of Tul Karm by IDF infantry troops, who raided a house in which one of Jabar's aides was believed to be hiding when it became apparent that Jabar himself was at the scene. Jabar tried to flee, but was captured along with his aide.

Jabar was responsible for recruiting the individual who led the bomber to Park Hotel, and helped plan the attack alongside Abbas Sayed, who headed Hamas in Tul Karm. Sayed himself is also in Israel custody, and is among those Hamas is demanding Israel release in exchange for abducted Israel Defense Forces soldier Gilad Shalit.

"We've come full circle," said Lieutenant Colonel Nir Bar-On, who commands the Nachson infantry brigade that captured Jabar. "Two carry out an arrest like this, just a short while before Passover, is a symbolic act, and shows that the IDF and Shin Bet [security service] do not rest nor relax for a second in protecting the country's security."

Jabar was among a group of Hamas members deported to Lebanon in 1992, and later served time in an Israeli prison before returning to the West Bank. Security sources said Jabar had been wanted for the past six years and had been the subject of an intensive effort to track him down, due to his activities in establishing Hamas' military wing in Tul Karm and recruiting new members to the organization. source

It is always a good thing when a terrorist is captured or killed. This terrorist attacked people at a religious dinner and killed 29 innocent people. This is not collateral damage, this was Hamas' intended target. Hamas purposely attacked innocent civilians eating a dinner with the goal trying to kill as many as possible. This is not a military target. The purpose of this attack is to terrorize civilians. What a sick group Hamas is.

Any minute now, some neocon POS will be along to call you a terrorist supporter for not wanting the head chopped off and publicly displayed.

Remember, it's not about right or wrong. It's about how many people we can kill and how we are justified dehumanizing a individual human life in the name of revenge.

I'm very happy they caught the guy.

Are there some here who feel they shouldn't have gone after this guy?

In the sense that someone may be brought to justice, it's a good thing.

In the larger scheme of the conflict, it's barely relevant. Capturing this guy is not going to solve all of the problems.

It's like how we've captured Bin Laden's second in command 3 times or so now. Does anyone feel that those captures have made us safer from Al Queda, Bin Laden, or progress any closer in Iraq? I mean, some people might, but I don't think many do.

If we caught Bin Laden, or the Iraqis took control of their own country, with Americans not being in harms way, then that would be meaningful and measurable.
