Identity theft on DP?

I am a new member on this forum and found it through google. I decided to type in my name on google to see what came up and apparently someone was using my name on this forum back in 2006/2007 and published my address and name. The posts that are on google present me in a pretty sad and negative way. At first I thought it might just be someone else with my name but it turns out that even my address was posted on a thread. :(

I do not really understand how this is even possible but does anyone have any insight on how i can get this solved. I assume that in the future i might one day run into an issue when applying for a job etc.

Are you sure it was you? There are almost 7 billion people on the planet, surely someone has the same name as you?

No but it has the same home address as me.

I was literally 9 or 10 during 2007 so I am speculating to how its even possible for people to get my home address on a forum i have never been on before. I sent ya a pm if u didnt get it.

You are worried about something that supposedly happened when you were 9 or 10? My guess is that unless you want to work for the CIA, and even then they don't care, nobody gives a shit what you did when you were 9 or 10, even if it was you.

So someone presented the 9 or 10 year old you in a bad way. You can't seriously be worried about that.

Well either way it was probably someone you know since the user was geographically local to you (in the same city as you are now). There are about 2,500,000 cities in the world... what do you think the chances they just *happen* to be in yours? :)

Lol. So it looks like someone I know must have taken up my identity in the past. Anyway do you think it is possible to remove the sensitive information like address and name from the posts? I prefer not to see a link to that thread and people in the future might get the wrong impression :(.

Be more inclined to help if the user who "stole your identity" wasn't using the same computer as you and more interestingly the same email that you registered with. :)

First of all I bought this computer just a few months ago...

I just looked at it and it says Hotmail not my own gmail. I think I now know who did it though it is a friend/neighbor. We signed up those duplicate emails when we were playing a game called maplestory together.

EDIT: If the internet ip is the same it might be because we use the same provider?

Well since you know who "stole your identity" you can report it to the authorities I guess...

yep I just have to talk to my dad about it and that part should be fine. The problem is i would like you to remove my personal information from the thread. Getting someone in trouble wont help if the same problem is still there.

Its not too big of a deal i would just prefer that my name not be blased out on that thread :(.

All I ask and ill be on my way.

    Thanks.

Sure, when your identity theft is resolved with the authorities, you can send us a copy of the police report and resolution.

Alright but I am not really sure how long it will take them to investigate it but will be back in the future.

Just one question before I leave why all the trouble and not just delete the info?
