Idea's on how to market my brand new link directory

    Hi, if this is in the wrong section then can a mod please relocate it - thanks.

    Ok, I've got several domains which I have had since 2002 with nothing on them so I decided to drop a link directory on one (business etc...) which will be aimed at the alternative health market.

    My question is, what are the best methods to market the directory to get people to add their business to the free directory?

    Never had a directory before so simpler is better.

    You can post links to your directory on many webmaster forum and submit it to directory critic.
    On the other hand I don't understand why you're greating a directory... no one submit to them manually. So no money there whatsoever.

    there are lot of software offers how to create a traffic to your site it can market your site the same time..affiliate programs are out there and some of them are for free

    Thanks for all of your suggestions, I have decided to build a front-end to the directory first to increase traffic and give something other than just a liink farm for the search engines to look at.

    Well good luck with your directory, but having a directory is ok for google ;) if you have 100 directories on the same ip, than you have a link farm ;) One directory is very very legal ;)

    @east, thanks for the input but unfortunately my shared hosting does have more than its fair share of directories on the server, which may or may not have the same IP, regardless it will have the same IP group.

    There is a health related blog on there now which I will build up over time, linked to a twitter account and also a facebook account to help in the awareness. I also have a few video's planned to drop on youtube and push the site.

    THe site isn't anything special, just a WP blog but hopefully it will help to get this domain working for me rather than sitting there doing bugger all lol.
